He becomes a free agent eligible to sign with an NBA team on the 16th of Feb. He is playing in China currently. Last time he was in the NBA, he was back up for the Atlanta Hawks. He's averaging 20+ points in the CBA (Chinese league). Think we should sign him as a backup center? I think eventually he'd crack the rotation as our first big off the bench to back up Roy.
Plus I don't like the sounds of this
On December 9, 2011, Johnson signed with the Atlanta Hawks. On April 13, 2012, Johnson was sent home and fined an undisclosed amount of money for "conduct detrimental to the team." Just three days later on April 16, 2012, Johnson scored a career high 21 points against the Toronto Raptors.>> On May 12, 2012, the NBA fined Johnson $25,000 for gesturing, again with his middle finger, at a Boston Celtics fan following the Hawks’ elimination from the playoffs.>>
I don't think we need to sign anyone until we actually need to sign someone. What if we would lose two point guards, then we would need another point and if we had already filled the roster with a center we would have to let them go to sign a point.
Yeah we don't need any 6'8" centers. And dominating China league is not the same as doing well in the NBA, the Hawks are supposedly interested in him again so that says something positive but still we have enough small forwards.
Also according to wikipedia (yeah I know) he lost his scholarship over anger management issues. So no.
In my 'pain in the butt to play against' scale, he's pretty good. I'd hate to see him go to a team the Pacers have to play against in the playoffs. I like/hate him the way I like/hate Reggie Evans. Be a nice insurance policy/goon, but not at all if their is an inkling of chemistry trouble. If he comes back, I would guess its not here, to not play.
We should really avoid guys who are banned for life from South Korean pro basketball for behavioral issues. There's a reason I call him "Crazy Ivan".
