Default Ryan Grigson: We don't win 12 games without Trent Richardson

Yes this really did deserve a post of its own...

But as far as this is concerned
    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...nt-richardson/

Ryan Grigson: We donít win 12 games without Trent Richardson

Colts General Manager Ryan Grigson held his postseason press conference on Thursday and spent some time on running back Trent Richardsonís disappointing performance after the Colts sent a first-round pick to Cleveland to acquire him in a trade.

Grigson said, via Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star, that Richardson fits everything that the Colts want to do on offense and that he played a valuable role for a team that wouldnít have won 11 games in the regular season and advanced to the divisional round without him. That last point certainly goes against the conventional reaction to Richardsonís role on the team, especially with Donald Brown playing ahead of him down the stretch and into the playoffs.

Brownís a free agent, though, and Richardson will definitely be back in 2014 so Grigson and the Colts donít have much choice but to have patience and hope that a full offseason leads to better results from Richardson next year. The price paid to acquire him will guarantee him a long look at the starting spot in the backfield.

If a full 16 games in Indy look like the 14 he played in 2013, patience will be a tougher sell this time next year.

Whatever helps him justify the trade in his head. Nobody believes you, Grigs.
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

I am getting sick of the Trent hate. I guarantee you the guy has a good year next season, give him an off-season and training camp. I swear some people honestly believe they could do better than him. It isn't easy joining a new team mid-season with an awful offensive line

I believe you are going to be sorely disappointed in Trent. I good back should show good instincts regardless of whether they know the system or not. I wanted to believe, but I just don't see it. He can probably be a mediocre back in time, but this is a guy we gave up a first rounder for. Here's hoping he proves me wrong.

I'm not sure where he will be on the depth chart next season. Donald Brown outplayed him and usurped him as the starter, one has to assume Vick Ballard will jump him too.

Donald is a FA. Who knows if he's back.

I'm honestly not sure what to think of Richardson. He had a productive year in CLE, so it's not as if he's just completely terrible. He's got some obvious skills that our other RB's lack (ability to catch out of the backfield, pass blocking), but it seems like he was miscast as a pure power running back.

Guess we will see what happens with him next year. Should be interesting.

Sorry, but don't give me that crap. This guy had ample amount of time to get accustomed to our scheme. It wasn't mid-season, but more like the 3rd game into the season...and going into the playoffs, he still averaged only 3 YPC. And I agree that the offensive line sucks, but Ballard, Bradshaw, nor Brown ever looked this horrible behind this same exact line!

Answer me this....when Curtis Painter was forced into the starting role, how long did it take before you realized 'this isn't working?'

I don't hate Trent I didn't think he was worth giving up a 1st rounder for.

If there's anything about this statement that I'm bothered by is that they're referencing him for the success the Colts had this season and he was really a nonfactor when without Andrew Luck we wouldn't have won 12 games this year.

That would've been more truthful coming from Grigson who just a week ago said Luck reminded him of MJ.

I am giving him a few more games next year after a full offseason of training camp with the team, but he is on a VERY short leash even with me (who loves the guy.) I hope he can go back to what he once was.

He's really good in a lot of areas, and the run part, I think teams were throwing more guys in the box, or moving guys post-snap into the box, for Trent than DB. The running plays *always* looked way more congested and blown-up for Trent than DB. Always.

I see it in Trent. I'll go with Grigs word over most dudes on their couches.

Trent's pass blocking helped us in a lot of games. Trent has the pass blocking and receiving down. He just needs running, or at least better designed runs. I think an offseason with A) improving the offensive line B) Pep being more comfortable as OC and knowing what he has on the team and C) Trent learning and getting comfortable in the system will pay dividends.

Ryan Grigson also said, "you are only judged by your last carry."

Trent Richardson's last carry was a loss of a one.

Remember when everyone thought Larry was crazy for saying Lance was the most talented on the team?
How about thinking he was dumb for drafting Miles?

    ďJust because you're offended, doesn't mean you're right.Ē ― Ricky Gervais.

What if someone from a school of business or management school were to ask, How did you do this? How did you get the Pacers turned around? Is there a general approach you've taken that can be summarized?

    Larry Bird: Yeah, patience.

If Grigson had said TRich WILL BE important next season for the Colts then I'd see the comparison ... BUT He's saying TRich's craptastic season with the Colts actually had some positive impact. Anyone who watched the games knows TRich had as much or more to do with losing than he did any winning... So this is not someone saying a guy has raw talent and it just needs to be honed and then we'll all start to see it too. No... Instead he's telling us we didn't see what we saw.

Jim O'Brien got 3 NBA head coaching jobs. Stop this appeal to authority idiocy. You guys need lists of ****** moves by GMs? MATT MILLEN, you lose. I'm by no means saying I'm one of em, but people gotta stop acting like Joe Internet is a moron, the NBA's finally figuring it out and they're immensely better for it. Next time you see Pete Dinwiddie at a Pacers practice with his calculator figuring out how to pay Lance, or Kevin Pelton scouting for us, make sure to let them know they're internet crusaders and have no valuable input. Tell John Hollinger his input isn't valued. This is such a friggin archaic sentiment.

Which was probably in the top half of his best carries as a Colt....

Trent wasn't with the Colts for the Raiders win, so maybe you or Mackey should recount.
