This is one reason I think the Pacers should try as hard as possible to avoid going into the luxury tax now, even if we win a title. Simon might be willing to pay the tax for a year or two, but he definitely doesn't want to pay the repeater tax. We need to avoid the LT as much as possible now just in case it's unavoidable in the future.

If West is still playing well in a couple years, I wonder if we could convince him to drop that last year at $12 million and give him two years at $8 instead, which would help us avoid the tax with Hibbert's new contract.
When I look at it I think you're right. We'd almost have to go into the tax during 15/16 but we should be able to get away with it for only a year with the salary we have dropping off in 2016. I think it'll be very important not to go into the tax next summer.

The other consideration is that the new TV deal will kick in in 2016
so that should bump the cap and luxury tax amounts up somewhat
more than the usual annual bump.

The next 2 years will be the most dicey if you must stay under the luxury tax

As the Good Book says" Sufficient unto the day, is the evil thereof. We are all worried about Lance and Danny next year(as well as Luis), but the truth is, there is not a thing we can do about either of them except try to swing a trade for an expiring that gives us enough money to be in play at the deadline. We have a really good shot at a Championship run in the EC and a good shot at knocking off Mia and getting a shot at the Finals. IMHO, that's what we need to be worried about. What happens next year is all gravy if we can pull off the Championship this year. All that being said, I loves me some trade and scramble thoughts to make us even better next year.

Hibbert will demand every dollar of the max and we won't even be able to try to get him for less, he'll have too many options to get it elsewhere. If we were to pay Lance 12 mil that year and Hibbert his max we'd be at 72 mil on 6 players. We'd still have to sign 7 more players with 3 million dollars to stay under the LT. If we kept Solo and Johnson that would take 2.5 mil of it. I don't think it's possible to pull it off. CJ makes 2 mil so we couldn't do with players like him and we'd have to let Scola walk. Larry really needs to plan this out to be able to keep Hibbert. The difference between paying Lance or Danny 7 mil and paying them 12 would be likely be the difference in keeping Hibbert.

I can't agree or disagree with what you are saying until we know what the 2015-2016 LT is going to be. I suspect that ( at worst ) it will be the same at $75.7 mil ( what it will be next season ). Even at $44 mil, the Pacers would have at least $31+ mil to spend before hitting the LT to add both Lance and Hibbert.

I will have to dig up the old Naptown_Seth post about this.....but I recall him posting that it's possible to field expensive Starters...as long as you fill the bench with cheap ( but talented ) Players ( which I think is possible now under the new CBA and the fact that we are contenders ) while filling out the roster with Players on rookie contracts ( like the 2014-2015 2nd round pick and the 2015-2016 1st round pick....assuming Bird doesn't trade it away ).

Look at what the Spurs have done.....they have basically built a core around an aging Parker, Manu and Duncan....while mixing and matching...from year to year...the remaining cogs that fit their culture, what they want to do while continuing the success that they have built over the years. I think that it would be hard to build a roster of 13 built around GH/PG24/Lance/Hibbert ( not sure what will happen with West in the summer of 2016 )....but I don't think that it would be impossible.

Ash from Army of Darkness: Good...Bad...I'm the guy with the gun.

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

I don't think it matters if Lance makes the all star game. Lance is going to be at full exposure in the playoffs regardless, which I think can honestly do more to help his value than the All Star game can.

At least one round against Miami. Not sure how many people are going to bother to watch the first two rounds of the East Playoffs at this rate. Even the Nets and Raptors don't look capable of beating us or the Heat. West will get alot more attention those rounds because the number of good teams.

Still, those 6-7 games will be watched just as much if not more than the All-Star game. The cat will be out of the bag, everyone will know that Lance is good. The only thing that could really hurt his value at this point is if he does something really boneheaded, or gets injured very badly.
