Warriors Acquire Jordan Crawford, MarShon Brooks In Trade With Celtics, Heat

The Golden State Warriors have acquired Jordan Crawford and Marshon Brooks for Toney Douglas and part of their traded player exception in a three-team trade with the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat.

The Warriors have been looking to improve their backcourt depth, with discussions also taking place for Kyle Lowry and Kirk Hinrich.

The Heat will acquire Douglas, while sending Joel Anthony to the Celtics.

The Celtics will also receive the protected future first round pick of the Philadelphia 76ers from the Heat, along with a future second round pick. The pick from the 76ers is lottery protected in 2014 and 2015 and then becomes a second rounder.

Brian Windhorst of ESPN reports that the deal will likely save upwards of $10 million for the Heat in salary and luxury tax.

See this frustrates me, the Warriors got two fantastic young guards for peanuts. Boston got robbed big time. Heat were just trying to save money. Not surprising.

Boston got a load of 2nd round picks and gets rid of a guy who was, quite frankly, hurting their tank.

I don't see how this is frustrating at all.I also wouldn't call Crawford or Brooks fantastic.

They save roughly $10M in salary when you take into account the luxury tax. Don't confuse Miami for some big market team with unlimited pockets. They're not and never have been.

This is somewhat disappointing for Crawford although he's obviously going to a much better situation in terms of winning games. It appears that Brad Stephens was making him a smarter player, his apg is way past his previous career high this year and he just looks like a smarter player out there. May be a bit of a setback for his development, although being in a winning environment never hurts.
    Already stoked for 2013-2014.

Miami just made one potential roster spot for Bynum?

They still have a full roster after this trade. I guess they could be planning to cut Toney Douglas, which they could do because he's a scrub and they don't need him anyway.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

That 10M isn't in capspace, it's avoiding paying a part of the LT.

Yes exactly. People don't realize that 1) the luxury tax is extremely punitive these days and 2) Miami is not a big market team like NY/LA with a blank checkbook.

Well, the Heat were on record saying that they want help at the guard spot. Douglas fits that bill. He is a good defender and can hit a 3 and thus fits the mold of Miami's PGs.

Very nice deal for the Warriors in terms of winning now and Boston got some future assets out of it as well.

That's a pretty good trade for most teams involved.

Looks to me like the Heat created a $2.2 million trade exception for themselves. Could that be enough to sign Bynum? They may see Toney Douglas as an upgrade at G when Wade sits. And Bynum as an upgrade over Anthony.

Trade exceptions aren't used for free agents.

Another thing to note is Douglas's salary is half of Joel Anthony's and his contract expires this year, so Heat is clearing books for upcoming free agency.

Trade help Warriors, when Curry sits during warrior games, as they go down like 20 offensive rating, but their defense probably gets worse.

I can see Heat waiving a player if they are really interested in Bynum. Their frontcourt will be really weak for the playoffs with just Anderson/Haslem/Bosh. If they go against Pistons in one of the rounds, Heat will win, but it won't be fun.

Between the Heat moving Anthony and the Clippers signing Turk for the remainder of the year, I assume that the Heat will indeed go after Bynum. I hope the Nets offer him more along with a starting spot.

Also...keep in mind....Joel Anthony has a Player Option in 2014-2015.....dumping him in favor of Toney's Expiring Contract saves them salary next season.

Both players are still young, and remember Marshon was averaging close to 20PPG when the Nets were in NJ. But then, they traded for JJ. Benched Marshon, and killed his confidence. Then the big move to Brooklyn, and finally trading Marshon. The Warriors will treat him much better, and give him a legit role without the question marks and treating him like a scrub. Marshon was not what the "win now Nets" needed though. They needed a big, marquee name. So they sacrificed young talent for bright lights in JJ. Hasn't worked out though.

Could it be used for a sign and trade with some other team? (Team x signs Bynum, trades with Miami for player x) just curious

Edit: only thought of it since Miami's roster is still full. Could be a way to get him while saving a few bucks
