He hit several pull up jumpers that 7 foot 280 guys just aren't supposed to hit and he was finishing through contact extremely well. Like I said dude's numbers this year are Shaq-esque. Not saying he has the same sort of impact, but his per 36 and 48 numbers are just silly right now.
He really is playing fantasticly. I hope he has put the pieces together because we need more skilled big men in the NBA. I remember watching him a couple years ago in person and just being impressed by his rebounding more than anything. Honestly he moves Roy like he's nothing. Cousins just knows how to get position. Against anyone. He's working hard this year. He can really change things for the Kings.

About Roy's defense, he really isn't that good of a one-on-one defender. Or I should say, that's not where his defense is the most valuable. Roy's strengths are protecting the rim from the help side.
I absolutely agree that his biggest strength is his rim protection. But he is a good post defender as well. He is strong, he will hold his ground, he doesn't bite on pump fakes often and he has great length in order to harass the release of the shot.

He has also improved significantly as a PnR defender. Our defense is designed to allow opposing bigs to take mid-range jump shots and thus Roy does concede those but whenever a guard gets into the middle and pulls up from 10 feet then you'll see that Roy does a pretty good job at contesting their jumpers. Needless to say, it isn't easy to shoot over a 7'2 guy.

I'm not saying he's a bad post defender, just that's not the reason why he's a DPOY candidate. His defensive impact should be measured by multiple different criteria, not just by looking at the other Center's offensvie production.

What if someone from a school of business or management school were to ask, How did you do this? How did you get the Pacers turned around? Is there a general approach you've taken that can be summarized?

Cousins is a phenom. He's an absolute monster. He got his 31 points, and the rest of the team scored 62. Hibbert did well off-ball. Cousins is one of those guys who gets his, and you've got to make sure no one else tears you up.
I think this is the major point. Gay and Thornton are capable scorers. They have both ripped us at one time or another in the past.

We picked our poison. Cousins is capable of going off, with or without good, tight defense. Kind of like Aldridge. So, we took away their other primary scorers. Doing so probably contributed to a few more boards and points to Cousins. No big deal, as long as we shut down the other players.

Pacers tried to take away Cousins also. But it just didn't work. None of the Pacer bigs had much success guarding him.

Like you said, no big deal, since the Pacers won. But the defense did try to shut him down without success. At least that's how it looked at the game.

When a defense starts really worrying about a post player, they'll send the double team. The Pacers never did it, so I don't think they were really all that worried about Boogie. Sure, there was the normal effort to just play straight up man, but had the score gotten a little tighter, we would have seen adjustments to really try and get the ball out of his hands.

Maybe, it really all comes down to McLemore IMO. I love Pizza Guy, but you ain't winning a dang thing with him and Gay carrying your perimeter load. McLemore has to become a two way stud. If he doesn't I think Kings will have to move DMC in his prime which will suck for you guys. There is a lot of pressure on Ben to become a great player or for the Kings to land the right guy in the lotto this year. I would draft Marcus Smart if I were you guys. Low risk and a tremendous leader who I think would blend well with Cousins.

Don't get me wrogn I'm not hoping it does or trying to make a dig. I'm just stating that there is a real need for McLemore and unknown 2014 draft choice to perform for Sacto. Which probably isn't breaking news, but it is worth mentioning.

The team as a whole could do a lot better job at boxing him out. That's something that we didn't do to the best of our abilities. Of course, Cousins is one of the hardest players to box out.

Not sure what you was watching then, I seen a triple team on him and several double team.

I actually got 15.2, still really impressive though.

Pacers don't box out a lot, it seems. They usually just make a wall around the front of the rim. Zone rebounding as it were instead of man to man.

Those stats would equal 19.7, but NBA.com has the differential at 15.2.
