    Default Next Pacer announcer/analyst

Of the current NBA Pacers, who would be the best NBA announcer or analyst. Obviously we are going with articulation from interviews and marketability.

Should this be in green? Haha don't get me wrong, I like Lance as a person and as a player, but when it comes to speaking he's not very articulate. I believe Granger or West would make the best announcer. They're both good speakers and have a high level of intelligence. I can see either contributing greatly as a play-by-play announcer.

I feel like West would be a solid analyst, but he doesn't really have an announcer's personality, despite already having a catchphrase ("oh, and one!"). When he retires, I'm guessing he'll walk away from the game completely.

Hibbert's putting in the TV work already, so I'll give him the nod. However, if I were a Fox Sports producer, I'd add Ian Mahinmi as a sideline reporter. I'd tell him to ask the coach a quick question and then just turn to the camera and smile for 45 seconds.

Yeah, green. I want to see Lance sit with Denari for a game sometime. Would be hilarious.

Honestly, I will be shocked if Danny doesn't end up doing TV somewhere.

I voted for Granger. It normally works best if the player is a star as it lends credibility, but I think CJ Watson might be really good too.
    LeWade are going down.

I know this is really off topic but has anybody ever noticed that Roy never makes eye contact with the camera or interviewer when he's talking? I notice it every time I see an interview with him.

Back on topic, I could see G-Hill getting into broadcasting.

He's gotten a LOT better at it. He used to blink like 8 times a second his first couple years, never woulda pictured him doing national in studio interviews with Regis Philbin and whatnot.

Haha I remember watching interviews with Roy his rookie year. I remember just watching his mannerisms, I never would have thought he would become one of the most dominant big men in the game. He could barley run then lol. It kind of reminds me on Andrew Luck in a sense they act different in interviews than you might expect after just watching them on the court/field.

One of my favorite things about this years Pacers team is the mix of personalities. There is not one player on the roster that I don't like.

I'm gonna second BnG here and go with C.J. Watson. I heard him speak at a fan event after a game earlier this year and he was very good with questions and very comfortable with an audience.

I can see most of our players ending up as analysts one day. Most of them are articulate.

I'll go with Roy because he is funny but I wouldn't be surprised to see anyone else taking a job as an analyst or announcer.

Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

PBP probably not, but color or studio work (from what we've seen of him on NBAtv Gametime) he could be more than adequate. Kind of a Chris Webber type.

On sidenote, is anyone else liking Dahntay when they've had him on Gametime lately?

    Nope. Very wooden delivery.

I've got nothing against Dahntay, but he isn't a very interesting on-air personality IMO.

Yeah I don't see Roy as a commentator, but i think he would be a great studio guy. obviously needs some TV coaching, anyone going into TV does. Later in his career he should head up to Syracuse and take part in their program for athletes who want to pursue TV careers after their playing days.

I'm not sure if we really have a guy that would be a good commentator honestly. Granger would probably be the closest, one of the well spoken guys on the roster, we all know he's pretty damn intelligent, and he knows the game.

Of any of them, Danny would be the one who seems to be able to speak well off-the-cuff. That said, I've only heard a couple of interviews with Lance or any of the low-minute guys.

I would very much expect Luis Scola to be a great commentator for Spanish-language broadcasts. He is extremely well-spoken in English, so I would imagine he is fantastic in Spanish (or Portuguese )

Danny would be a better report, Roy would be colorful and funny like Shaq. I think Lance would be as well and bring the element of what crazy thing is he going to say next...

I almost voted for Scola based on his reported great knowledge of the game and statistics and the emerging market/demand for Spanish-speaking. Could definitely see him on ESPN's Spanish channel.

If we are talking color commentator for the Pacers, you can cross Roy, PG, Granger, Hill, and (soon) Lance off the list. Any player who "got paid" isn't going to want to commit to 82-100ish days a year (plus travel) for an announcer's salary. Unless they went broke.

Now, a studio commentating job? TNT once-a-week color commentator job? Totally do-able.

Depending on the amount of time they spend on the Pacer's roster before they retire, I see Chris Copeland or (particularly) Orlando Johnson as good candidates for future Pacers color man slots.

Paul George is gregarious and seems to have a good rapport with other stars. Might be a good "NBA on TNT"-style guy. David West might be a good "You're a damn fool if you think... I don't care what anyone says, I'm telling you..."-style guy in the mold of Charles Barkley.

    Did Austin go broke?

Most guys want to do SOMETHING after they retire, and money isn't going to be an object - they'll do what they want to do.
