I have to go with Danny. He has been everything you want in a player that is not a superstar.
Good is the enemy of Great
We're changing the identity of our basketball team -- dramatically. We're a power post team -- a blood-and-guts, old-school, smash-mouth team that plays with size, strength, speed and athleticism. We attack the basket. . . . This is the new identity of our team. It was a great effort. I'm very proud of our guys."
-- Frank Vogel.
My favorite player is Danny. He will always be my favorite until he retires. David West has always been my 2nd even when he was with thr Hornets. With that said I love THE PACERS though. I love everyone on this team except Solo Hill haha
I voted Lance for pure entertainment value. But West is a close second and maybe first on some days, he is pretty consistently a force of attitude, physicality and scoring ability for us. But seriously I've never rooted for a team that had more likable guys than this one. PG, Hill, Scola, Hibbert, Danny are all very fun to watch.
If we're talking historical then a bunch of other guys are in the mix: Reggie on top, and a bunch of others like Mark Jackson, Smits, the Davises, peak Ron (pre brawl), Vern Fleming have to be in there. (edit: of the players I've actually seen play)
It's a toss-up between George and West. I went with West because I figured everyone would pick George. West is just a pro's pro, always seems to make the savvy basketball decision, and gave this team much needed leadership and toughness.
JOB by himself made the Pacers one of the jokes of the NBA I remember Melo laughing at the Pacers for leaving him open by the 3 point line during the whole game, so sure they were not the number 1 joke but they were in there together with the other crappy teams.
I opened this thread for one specific reason, and I was not disappointed.
While I am here, I'll put my vote in for Big Roy. Besides his defensive and attitude, I will forever be grateful for two years in Area 55.
This is really hard to pick. Love West, Hill, Roy, Danny, and PG. Lance just stands out to me though. Very entertaining, makes crazy plays, hard worker, and just a wild card. He's just different than most of the rest of the players.
Thank you all for voting. I voted for Roy as well. I honestly expected him to lead by more than he is. Maybe due to him being the longest tenured player other than Danny that was brought in originally by the Franchise. Our resurgence as a Franchise to me began with the JO trade that he was a part of.
I would really like to see Roy take more of a leadership role for this team. He is truly becoming a great player and at times can carry the team on his back.
Man that is just a tough spot to be in. There isn't one single player on this team that I do not like. I don't know how long it has been since I have been able to say that truly, but really, I love this entire team and their performance not only on the court but off of it too. True class acts round the table.
So that makes me default to who I believe will eventually be the best Pacer in the history of the franchise, my man Paul George.
Thinking about a thread like this just makes me sad to think we may lose some of these players we have developed
I'm a little surprised at the results. It was a hard choice for me between Roy and Danny. I chose Roy because I really like the way he's put in the work to better himself since he college days and early days here and I think he's the most important player we have when it comes to winning. I thought PG would get the most votes by a wide margin followed by Lance just because people tend to go for flashier players. I'll always like Danny and follow him if he leaves here next season. He's a class act player that did all he could for this franchise in some tough times. If he has to leave I hope it's with a ring.
