Do you know which number Solo chose to wear in the Mad Ants? #24

Not a good sequence for Solo and the Mad Ants at the end of the first. Solo fouled Liggins with 9 seconds left and sent him to the line then proceeded to drive and lost the ball and then Porter (another Mad Ant) fouled Walker and gave up 2 more FTs.

Edit: Ok, 1st quarter recap for Solo:

8 points (2/4 shooting 0/1 from 3, 4/5 from the FT line), 2 rebounds, 2 assists. He also has 3 turnovers (offensive foul, bad outlet pass and lost the ball while driving) and 2 fouls.

Solo just had a great drive and dish.

Edit: And he just airballed a turnaround jumper out of the post

Solo is having a nice 3rd quarter. He continues driving aggressively and he has also hit 2 3s. He also got a steal and an extra rebound. The Mad Ants have cut the deficit to 2 points.

Solo picked up his 5th foul early in the 4th and thus only played 5-6 minutes in the quarter. Here is his final statline:

19 points (6/12 shooting, 2/5 from 3, 5/6 FTs), 5 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. He also had 6 turnovers (2 of them were offensive fouls, one travelling call, two bad passes and one lost ball on a drive) and 5 fouls.

It was nice watching Solo play. He seemed to enjoy himself and I can see why he took the opportunity to go there right away. The guy obviously wanted to play. He had a very nice dunk after a whistle and he was aggressive driving to the rim. He also made some very nice passes after drives.

The Mad Ants lost 103-101 but they were losing by 20 points half-way the 2nd quarter so they fought back. Not a lot of defense being played in general and a ton of turnovers (the Mad Ants had 28 turnovers and the Skyforce had 17 turnovers) but it was fun. All in all, it was an enjoyable game. Bill Walker scored 26 points while going 6/10 from 3 point range and Justin Hamilton can flat out score (31 points on 12/17 shooting).

Definitely the right move, and who knows long-term how Hill turns out, but the logjam makes me wish Pacers had taken someone they had a more immediate need for (defensive/rebounding 4, or scorer off the bench a la Hardaway Jr.) just because the championship iron is SO hot this year.
No rookie player was really going to contribute for a championship contending team this season. Miles Plumlee was the same last year. Solo just needs to play and stay in shape

The Pacers are becoming SA Eastern Conference. We get guys here, and develop them in our system. I would expect Solo to contribute, hopefully for Indiana, in a year or two

Not trying to offend anybody, but can we please stop the "we should have drafted Hardaway" discussion. I understand Hardaway has played a few good games, but its much too early to compare Solo and Hardaway

The guy wanted to play. After his second 3 he had that smile that Lance has when he makes a big play.

Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

I was really impressed with Ron Howard, he had been in our training camp and I did not know he was playing in Fort Wayne (I have got to get to more of these games) but Solo was clearly the best player, had he not been in foul trouble he would probably have been able to win the game for them. They were down big early and fought back as mentioned above. Not very many people there but three of the Pacers showed up, I was hoping BAMF or Hibbert might show but no joy.

I'll respectfully disagree. I think there are still a few roles open on this team. It's a DAMN good team, but not perfect...

    1. Defensive/rebounding 4 (or 4/5 tweener). Obviously West & Scola are your two main options, but sometimes Scola's shot isn't falling or he's a defensive liability against certain lineups, so having someone you can put in that's able to help out where Scola's game is lacking would help in a few scenarios.

    2. More scoring. You can never have enough scoring off the bench. I trust Scola, and I'll grow to trust Danny. Lance's run with the 2s is usually good, but he's better with starters when he's not THE option. Beyond all of that, I guess I just don't trust Watson as a scorer, and Mahinmi definitely isn't a scorer. Every team in the league can say this -- you can never have enough scoring options off the bench, because there's always going to be that game where your two main bench options aren't getting it done, and you gotta figure out a third or risk going to your starters too early (plus, foul trouble cushion). Only stipulation is player can't be a total defensive liability a la Copeland.

I think either of those could have helped off the bench in limited spurts this year. But I'm not saying any of that to bash Solo Hill for his career. He may well be a down-the-line option.

I think that this player would be a 3/4 tweener and not a 4/5 one. Scola is only a liability defensively when he is forced to defend the perimeter. Therefore, you would probably need a big wing that can defend in the perimeter and in the post while being able to grab rebounds. Andre Roberson is a rookie that can specializes in those two things. Arsalan Kazemi could do that as well.

Well, I suppose that you are right. But you never expect big scoring numbers from rookies that are not lottery picks so I don't know if this is feasible. I suppose that Nate Wolters could fit this category as a big college scorer that was not picked high in the draft but those cases are kinda rare.

I'm still excited to see how Solomon Hill looks over the next couple of seasons. I'm high on his potential to be a smart, tough, two-way roleplayer with good size who does a little bit of everything. I think eventually his elite skill will be knocking down the 3-ball on catch and shoots.
