Default Solo Hill to the mad ants

@CandaceDBuckner: #Pacers rookie Solomon Hill has been assigned to the D-League affiliate, Fort Wayne Mad Ants

@CandaceDBuckner: Solomon Hill has been on the inactive list since F Danny Granger returned to the lineup.

Definitely the right move, and who knows long-term how Hill turns out, but the logjam makes me wish Pacers had taken someone they had a more immediate need for (defensive/rebounding 4, or scorer off the bench a la Hardaway Jr.) just because the championship iron is SO hot this year.

@ScottAgness: Now that Granger has played, and stayed healthy, this is the right move for Solo. It can be a big help, as it was for OJ last year.

No rookie player was really going to contribute for a championship contending team this season. Miles Plumlee was the same last year. Solo just needs to play and stay in shape

Not trying to offend anybody, but can we please stop the "we should have drafted Hardaway" discussion. I understand Hardaway has played a few good games, but its much too early to compare Solo and Hardaway

I'll respectfully disagree. I think there are still a few roles open on this team. It's a DAMN good team, but not perfect...

    1. Defensive/rebounding 4 (or 4/5 tweener). Obviously West & Scola are your two main options, but sometimes Scola's shot isn't falling or he's a defensive liability against certain lineups, so having someone you can put in that's able to help out where Scola's game is lacking would help in a few scenarios.

    2. More scoring. You can never have enough scoring off the bench. I trust Scola, and I'll grow to trust Danny. Lance's run with the 2s is usually good, but he's better with starters when he's not THE option. Beyond all of that, I guess I just don't trust Watson as a scorer, and Mahinmi definitely isn't a scorer. Every team in the league can say this -- you can never have enough scoring options off the bench, because there's always going to be that game where your two main bench options aren't getting it done, and you gotta figure out a third or risk going to your starters too early (plus, foul trouble cushion). Only stipulation is player can't be a total defensive liability a la Copeland.

I think either of those could have helped off the bench in limited spurts this year. But I'm not saying any of that to bash Solo Hill for his career. He may well be a down-the-line option.

I think that this player would be a 3/4 tweener and not a 4/5 one. Scola is only a liability defensively when he is forced to defend the perimeter. Therefore, you would probably need a big wing that can defend in the perimeter and in the post while being able to grab rebounds. Andre Roberson is a rookie that can specializes in those two things. Arsalan Kazemi could do that as well.

Well, I suppose that you are right. But you never expect big scoring numbers from rookies that are not lottery picks so I don't know if this is feasible. I suppose that Nate Wolters could fit this category as a big college scorer that was not picked high in the draft but those cases are kinda rare.

    OJ however...

He'll be playing with Peyton Siva, Tony Mitchell, and good ole Ron Howard. And Chris Porter, who's apparently keepin that dream alive.

The way Vogel described it, S. Hill had the final decision on whether or not he wanted the D-League assn. Ultimately, Hill wanted to play

I really think to be successful in the D-league you need to be a stable person. For example, if we sent Lance to the D-league I am not sure how that would have went with him being away from his support system. Keeping him with the Pacers was probably the best move for him.

A guy like Miles who is pretty composed and without character or personality issues has much more of an upside with regards to the D-league. I really think it just depends on the individual as to how well/poorly the D-league can help tem develop.

Great news. It worked for Miles and OJ so it definitely is the right option. I'm glad that Solo Hill wanted to go there and play as well. He will get scoring chances in the D-League and that could improve his shooting.

Is there any way to watch D-League games when they're taking place?

I wanted Reggie Bullock. Dude is going to be a very good player for where he was drafted.

Yes, they stream the D-league games live on YouTube. Here's the link for tonight's Mad Ants game. The counter says it tips off in just over 14 hours.

Good. We need to use the Mad Ants as much as possible. It clearly helped Plumlee and, to an extent, OJ last year.

Curious on the D-league. Are we able to sign anyone from the Mad Ants to our active roster if we want to? I was a fan of Tony Mitchell coming out of college. I also think Solomon Hill will be a good role player for us down the line
