With Ian AND Scola/West you have the CHOICE of playing big or small. If you dump Ian in favor of Evans then you have no choice - to play big ball you have to play Roy 48 minutes. West/Scola (or Scola/Cope, that was done to see if it would work so that West could rest if the small ball was needed) is used for limited minutes, not as the primary backup way of playing our bigs.
Just because Evans is 6'8" that doesn't mean you are not playing big, Evan plays bigger than our 7 feet tall backup.

Bismack is only 6'9, though. He is averaging 0.9 blocks in 19.7 minutes this year.

Ian is almost 7 feet and averages 0.9 blocks in 15 minutes.

About Stiemsma now. He is a nice defensive piece but he fouls a lot. He would be nice as a 3rd big, of course.

I'd think that the Pacers would just use Evans as the Backup PF to play the same role he plays in Brooklyn.....rebound for Brook/Hibbert at the PF spot.

I guess what vnzla81 is saying is that Vogel doesn't ALWAYS have a Rim protector ( unless you consider either West/Scola a Rim protector ) on the floor. You can see with the periodic West/Scola Frontcourt rotation that he uses from time to time....which just screams to the other Team....attack the paint. Getting a Rebounding specialist ( despite the fact that he will eat into the 2014-2015 Salary Cap and therefore not an option ) would just replace a Rim Protector with a Rebounder that allows for 2nd chance points while feeding into the "dominate the boards" philosophy that this team buys into.

Reggie Evans does not defend at all. The only thing that he can do is to grab rebounds.

I guess I don't even know how to start making a rebuttal to this statement. I don't have time to scour the games the Nets have played to isolate how well he's done against traditional centers. All things considered, though, we can go off the one game or we can see that for a struggling Nets team you have a guy who is contributing about the same as Ian is but playing the backup position Scola is (except in 4 games he actually started).

Pretty much this, Reggie Evans had the lowest Defensive Rating (98) among all players in their playoff series against the Bulls.

Aaron Gray would be a nice upgrade from what I can remember.
Aaron Gray wouldn't be an upgrade over Ian. He has recorded only 79 blocks in 285 NBA games. He is a big body that can rebound the ball and defend the post but that's mostly it. He is not really a rim protector.

I have no clue then...Joel Pryzbilla?

To anyone that wants to upgrade Mahinmi....can someone give me a better Rim Protector that can defend the Low Post that is a viable Trading option?

As a 3rd Big....given that we are literally scrapping the bottom of the barrell....do we need a rim protector? or is a Big Body that can rebound the ball and defend the post good enough?

Gray would be good as a 3rd big. But I don't think that this is realistic at all for 2 reasons:

    1) He was recently included in the Rudy Gay deal and therefore he cannot be traded anytime soon.

    2) Why spend $2.69 million in a 3rd Center when you can get a cheaper player that could do those things like Fesenko?

Yeah, I read your posts. You just didn't say as a 3rd big in this particular post that I was quoting and I got confused. That's all

Sorry Nuntius,,, its happened more than once just kinda vented out on ya my pacer brethren. all good

I feel good about Ians salary,, with the list that was given..

but like to see us add a third big.

I was suggesting Cope for Gray if that's the best we can find. * Gray expires next season I believe.

In any case, Biyombo would be nice. I believe that he has potential and he will end up being a very solid Center in this league. The only worry I have about Bismack is that I don't see him challenging LeBron's drives enough simply because he lacks Ian's standing reach. Other than that I'd be very happy with Bismack even though he would be pretty hard to acquire.

Reggie Evans would be awful, on the other hand. I don't know how people have the impression that this guy is good defensively. He only has one use on the court. He can grab rebounds. That's it. He is a complete liability offensively and defensively.

    Also, do you remember that?

    And that?

    And that?

    And that?

Sorry but this guy is horrible. He is a flagrant flopper that cannot do anything on the court apart from grabbing rebounds (and balls in general).

Yeah, Gray expires next season. I want us to add a 3rd big as well and we could do this as a salary dump. But I do think that Cope's 3 point shooting will prove useful as the season progresses.

And I also believe that we can find a 3rd big on the cheap if we need him that much.

I brought this up on another thread but if Foster has recovered from his back surgery he's still young enough. If he thought he had it in him I'd love to have Foster as a 3rd. center to give us an option when Ian stinks it up.

I would give Foster a shot before Oden. If Foster is healthy enough Im sure pacers management would consider it. Im guessing Foster has played his last game though.

If he wanted to play the last 10 games of the season and get his sea legs back I would be all for it. Its a pipedream im afraid.

Someone facebook Fiesty and let him know Pacers fans want him back!
