IMO Part of the issue with Ian is that this time last year Hibbert was not really playing well so the drop off was almost nil, Roy has continued the solid work he put in late last year and through the playoffs, in other words he has gotten dramatically better but Ian has stayed the same so it is a bigger drop-off. Plus players do go through slumps and I think he is in one. Long road trips also tend to wear guys down lets see how he does after a couple of days off with no late flights, no taking a bus for hours in the fog etc.... this really was the road-trip from hell for the Pacers.
This time last year some people were just coming off thinking Ian should actually start...

Actually I think Ian is better defensively this year than last year. I just think people focus too much on offense. Even last year he was never close to Roy defensively, but Roy was struggling offensively. People were so focused on Roy's offensive struggled they didn't realize Ian was worse offensively, and not better defensively. I think most people don't realize that most bench players are specialists of some kind. Very few, they tend to either young or the 6th man, are decent two way players. Some people just can't accept that you aren't going to have 10 starting quality players on your team. You might have 6, 7 if you are lucky. The rest tend to either be young players with potential, or specialists who fill in the holes. Ian falls into that specialist area. I wish Ian was as consistent as a starter, or was good enough two way player to be a starter, but the facts are if he was the player some of these people are wanting he would probably be starting for Orlando or Utah or some other team not being a back-up only making $4million.

I think he's better offensively too. He's not been making the make-me-pull-out-my hair moves that he consistently did last year, like 20-foot jumpers and driving from the elbow. Just basic big man basketball.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

I think it was one of the guys waiting to check in. I can't tell who that might be, but it narrows it down to two.

Well, if it was the 4th quarter with 3:24 left it was either Hill or West. I could easily see both of them saying that.

Nice read, as always Peck. I don't think F- is totally fair to Ian. He was bad, but his gracelessness on offense makes him look so much worse than he actually is.

As long as we are auditing your grades, I think the highest I would go for West would be a B. I loved his shoulder check of LeBron on that fast break and he was generally efficient shooting the ball, but the dude continues to make some mind blowingly stupid passes against the Heat. He did it in the Eastern Conference Finals last season and he picked up right where he left off there. I think in the third quarter he turned the ball over (unforced turnovers, btw) on three straight possessions. Tighten it up, David.

Last night was the first time we've beaten Miami when we give up 20+ TOs. Last three times it happened game 1 and game 7 of the ECFs last year. Game 6 of the semis in 2012.

I'd say that is a fair criticism. F- is probably a little harsh for last nights performance so I guess if anything I'm guilty of lumping together his recent piece of work. Don't get me wrong I think he was still bad last night but in retrospect he may not have been as bad as he has been in recent games, which IMO have been horrendous.

Our power forwards combined for 11 turnovers on their own last night (West had 7 as you mentioned; Scola chipped in with 4). The Heat as a team only had 12. I know we won, but we really have to take better care of the ball.

The one off of Roy's face would have been hilarious if it hadn't come at such a crucial moment haha

Also Hibbert is my new god, "When they go big-big instead of small-big with Bosh and the Duke guy -- what's his name? oh, Shane Battier -- it allowed me to roam free a little bit," Hibbert said. "We always stay big and we make teams adjust to us."

Might as well give equal gripe time to PG for his 6 TOs. And Scola had 4 in 16 minutes.

The team in general just has to make crisper passes. I realize you are susceptible to turnovers when you are trying to make entry passes into the post when the defense knows it is coming, but still--this has been an issue in this offense and we really have to tighten it up. Meaning everyone, not just West or PG or whoever.

Sometimes I think we try to swag too hard when we get on a roll, there were like 6 end of 3rd Q/4thQ TOs that were basically us trying to land multiple knockout haymakers.

That TO was on Roy. He should have cut hard to the basket. But to his credit, he was tired/.

I didn't know the history, but I did feel it was significant last night that we won the game despite turning it over a lot versus MIA. That's very hard to do.

Nope. Didn't really need it. It was probably 95% Pacer fans last night. Im pretty sure almost all the Heat fans walked in when the doors opened at 5:30.

from that same article about Roy Hibbert:

As the Pacers have evolved, he has only gotten better, and meaner, and hungrier. He's everything everyone always wanted Dwight Howard to be.This has been true for a while, but it's still pretty crazy to say this out loud: Roy Hibbert is the most dominant center in the NBA.

I've kind of believed this for a while now while people were still ooo'ing and aww'ing over the likes of andrew "unbreakable" bynum and dwight "drama mama" howard. I had all the faith in the world Roy was going to be better and more successful than them. I don't often have one of these posts but yeah this a bit of me patting myself on the back.
