Default Pacers 2010 Draft Grade for Paul George = F

I came across this today. Boy, am I glad the genius that graded that draft isn't running our franchise!

    http://www.cbssports.com/nba/story/13555767

NO. 10: PACERS SELECT: PAUL GEORGE, SF, FRESNO STATE GRADE
Analysis: Larry Bird admitted the club's biggest need was a point guard. With another shooter now onboard, that weakness is even more glaring.
    F

That's right up there with the draft pundit who in 2000 commented that the Patriots had wasted a 6th round draft pick on a nobody named Tom Brady, who was unlikely to beat out john Friesz to even make the roster
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

What makes it even more hilarious-

NO. 8: CLIPPERS SELECT: AL-FAROUQ AMINU, SF, WAKE FOREST GRADE
Analysis: The Clippers needed a small forward and might have gotten the best one in the draft at No. 8. Imagine that.
    GRADE: A

Once again, heartfelt thanks to Utah for selecting Gordon Hayward.

Interestingly, they gave the Lance pick an A. 1/2 ain't bad I guess.

that goes to show you don't always have to draft for need. Best player available is the way to build a franchise. If Cleveland had paid attention, they wouldn't be stuck with Anthony Bennett
    David "And One" West

It's been reported multiple times that Indiana would have taken George even if Hayward were available. Although I guess you could be thanking them more for not picking Paul George than for taking the Hayward variable out of play for us.

Yeah, PG was the pick short of some dumbass (at the time) offer to move up from all reports.

I am not sure anyone thought he would be this good. DG certainly gave a ringing endorsement to Larry Bird.
Another reason to be a Danny fan and what he has done for the franchise.

Remember the Ekpe Udoh hype machine,

Don't need people calling out other posters like this

Draft grades are so unpredictable that I've learned not to care about them in the slightest. If NBA scouts and GM's can't even get it right most of the time, then I certainly don't have faith in sports writers nailing it.

    Some other grades...

    Wes Johnson B
    Greg Monroe C
    Gordon Hayward C
    Cold Aldrich B
    Xavier Henry B

It's hard to believe the jackass(es) who put this together is getting paid, probably pretty good money, to do this sort of thing for a living.

Not to mention that ringing endorsement was regarding a player that obviously played THE SAME POSITION as Danny.

I've never heard of Dave Del Grande, and CBS Sports(line) has been part of my daily rotation for 15 years. Apparently, he's a fantasy guy who did freelance for the site.

I still to this day do not understand how PG went so late, and what other people were missing. The first I heard of PG was when I found out Danny was working out with him before the draft. I watched videos of him playing ball, and while I've admitted many a times I can't predict **** in the draft, I couldn't understand why everyone else wasn't so high on him.

This is exactly what he displayed pre-draft: shooting, length, athleticism, ball handling.. How do NBA teams miss out on that? Now obviously there was no way in hell to predict he would be this good. I've wondered if he ever would. But I've thought he's showed he had the ceiling since the summer of the draft.

I remember arguing that PG was exactly who the Pacers should get (wasn't on here) and people were saying, "no he's a small forward, we already have one." Even at the time I thought he could play the 2.

Anywho, it just surprises me because my assumption is NBA draft scouts would be always interested in potential and raw talent over anything else. Well he showed it?? How was he not drafted 3rd?

Eh, he was an "upside" talent with some question marks. Not surprising he went #10.

Obviously, he's achieved his potential, but it wasn't always a given.
There are two types of quarterbacks in the league: Those whom over time, the league figures out ... and those who figure out the league.

Is it wrong to assume many people thought at the time his potential/ceiling wasn't even close to how he is performing right now?

Not that I look at them and say "hahaha you got it wrong" but still believe he has surpassed the lofty expectations some may had.

I thank Utah everyday for drafting Hayward. Thank you for that blunder
"So, which one of you guys is going to come in second?" - Larry Bird before the 3 point contest. He won.

Maybe because good handles in a College situation takes a while to get up to NBA speeds and defenses. It's not like he was considered a primary ballhandler.
