Default Derrick Rose exits the game with an injury to his right knee.

    http://espn.go.com/chicago/nba/story...ht-knee-injury

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose injured his right knee during the third quarter of Friday night's game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

The team announced he will not return.

Rose was taken to the locker room at the end of the third quarter, barely putting any weight on the injured leg. Assistant trainer Jeff Tanaka and Bulls director of sports medicine Jen Swanson escorted him back to the locker room.

Rose tore the ACL in his left knee in April of 2012 and missed all of last season while recovering from reconstructive knee surgery.

    I hope Rose is okay.

I know as Pacer fans we all want to beat the Bulls, but this really is a shame. I want to win against good competition. To be the best we have to beat the best. Hope its nothing too serious and he has a speedy recovery.

I'm hoping it was just a tweak and that the Bulls are just taking extreme caution(I didn't see it), but people are making it sound bad.

You beat me by one minute. Here's what I wrote in the thread I started.

This was just reported and shown on NBATV's Gametime show. It appeared to be a non-contact injury and he came up gimpy, hopped to the bench, and then had to be helped to the locker room. He will not return to tonight's game.

The injury is to his right knee, which is not the same knee that kept him out for 18 months.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

Could it be an over compensation injury from favoring the left knee?

Hopefully he's fine and this is just precautionary. Hate to see talent like that miss even more time.

Just saw the play, i'll be honest, i will be shocked if it isn't a torn ACL, just my opinion on it and I am no doctor, but I just can't see that being anything other than a torn ACL, hope i'm wrong

Man, I know we don't like the Bulls and all, but now I just feel bad for Derrick Rose and them, hopefully its not an ACL tear and he can come back and play at a high level. I guess I always viewed the biggest gap between us and the Bulls were they had a superstar and we didn't, and now that Paul George is a superstar, I feel more comfortable with them having Rose, in fact, I want them to have Rose

See I think he hurts it on the first step with the right foot in that gif, it drags behind him, and then he tries to plant on it again and the knee just gives away, I don't know...hopefully just a tweak but when it goes out like that well..

I was watching the game live when this happened and I think it is serious. He was noticably worried and looked down right pissed on the bench after limping off. All he could do was shake his head and bob his knees like a nervous jittery person would do. He then went to the locker room with about 3 assistants helping him this looks bad.

As much as I can not stand the Bulls, this really saddens me. I want to beat the Bulls as a hard fought rivalry against the real Bulls not the Thibs try-hards which was fielded in last year's playoffs (granted the Bulls try-hard team is still a good team).

As much as I hate to say it, I have to say it.

    Called it.

    Let me be clear here.

This is coming from someone who (like many of us) HATES the Bulls with a passion. However, I've also dealt with chronic orthopedic issues for most of my life, so I know a trainwreck waiting to happen when I see one. Not happy to see someone get hurt, even if I do want our guys to absolutely pulverize them on the court.

Are you serious right now? He drove on a non contact play. Did you even see the video?

    Yes, I did.

Which is why I am not at all surprised.

I can't tell you how many times I've aggravated or initiated injuries in 'non contact' activity. It's just as easy if not EASIER than 'contact' activity.

Yeah, with contact there is a possibility that it's just a contusion injury. With no contact you're looking at some type of structural problem. The question is just how much.

What if someone from a school of business or management school were to ask, How did you do this? How did you get the Pacers turned around? Is there a general approach you've taken that can be summarized?

    Larry Bird: Yeah, patience.

    Exactly.

When you have a contact injury, yes of course there is a possibility for tears, breaks, etc.

But when a guy just flat out lands/steps wrong and comes up gimpy, now you can almost completely rule out the possibility of just getting a "bone bruise" or deep tissue bruise. At that point, either it's just a really bad scare, OR you're talking a freak accident that ends up with significant ligament/tendon/muscle damage.

Again, I'm not sitting here ROOTING for the guy to get hurt. I've been through enough in my own life to never wish that on a player that plays for a team I hate. I'm just being realistic here.

The worst injuries often happen on the most benign, normal looking plays. You cannot see inside the players skin and joint capsules, but that's where the fireworks are happening on those "simple" plays where guys come up gimpy.

The MRI will either confirm that his career is in serious jeopardy, or he got a bad scare and got really lucky afterward.

From a Pacers fan perspective, yes I am hopeful that this slows down any potential run the Bulls have against us. Honestly, I am not scared of them in a 7 game series with or without Rose. But as a sports fan in general, and someone who has dealt with these types of things, I hope he makes it out OK.

    He's still a jerk, though :P

You called a random injury to a knee he had never hurt before? That's pretty impressive.

I don't recall which thread it was in, but I made a definitive statement that I was sure Rose would not make it through the season, and would go out on injury.

Again, it's not me just hating on Rose and being a 'sore rival fan' - I just tend to have a good intuition for this type of thing because I've gone through it so many times myself.

Is Rose a 'chronic minor nagging injury' type of guy? No. He has sustained one (now two) major injuries. But sometimes even an elite athlete just has a proclivity towards getting injured. Derrick Rose is one such player.

If and when he returns from this injury, I would make the exact same prediction again, sadly.

Well, the Bulls blew a 21 point lead, and the Bulls are far less impressive without Rose... I don't care who is on or off the court when we advance and win a ring. I hope it is not career threatening, but I hope he stays sidelined for a considerable amount of time. (Like the rest of THIS season) Probably tacky, but I don't care.

By the way, watched the end of that game and I hope for the Blazers sake Derrick Rose wasn't sitting by the TV when they dropped the streamers and confetti... He will NEVER forget that. Get well Derrick. Basketball is better with great players! (Just not too soon)
