So what's the deal, did we ever find a Robin for Danny's Batman?
At this point, I think that Granger is frickin Marvin from the Super Friends

Danny Granger (calf) has been declared out for Tuesday's game against the Heat, but is hoping to play Friday against the Bobcats.

    Dec 10 - 11:54 AM

    I had to re-read the post/tweet.

Just so that there is no confusion....this is an old update...as Hicks said....posted on yesterday in reference to yesterday's Heat game...NOT next Wednesday Pacers ROAD Game in Miami.

@ScottAgness: Granger doesn’t think he’ll play on Friday. "I don’t like where I’m at with my timing and my rhythm and obviously my conditioning," he said.

It's our own fault for interpreting "hopeful" to mean "definite" but damn.

I think they need to show continual daily videos of practice involving Danny just to keep the "he's sore again!" or "His knee is still bad!" interpretations from flying around, though.

Wouldn't timing, rhythm and conditioning all be improved by... playing? I mean you've got to start somewhere.

Except I think he wants to be able to make a contribution rather than just get run off the court and look bad.

So does that mean he's getting outplayed by Solomon Hill and Orlando Johnson in practice? Because those are the minutes he'd be getting. If so then this is the most worrisome development so far IMO.

I've been super patient with Danny's physical health issues, he can't do much about actually being injured. But that tweet says nothing about any injury issues.

Shouldn't it be the coach who decides if Danny is playing well enough or not to contribute (assuming he's healthy)?

    This smells fishy to me.

I doubt Danny's standard for himself is whether or not he's better than OJ/Solo.

Danny should have just toed the company line Tuesday, instead of stepping out and declaring himself ready 3 days in advance.

Perhaps, but if he's healthy, and he's playing better than Solo + OJ, and those are the only guys he would take minutes from, then why wait? Is he afraid of being embarrassed? Everyone understands the dude is going to be super rusty. The things he's saying need to be improved are things that can only really be perfected with actual in-game minutes. Just sounds really weird to me.

I had my hopes up....but...I guess I just need to fall back on my assumption that he shouldn't play til Mid-January. I hate being teased like this and then be disappointed.

    Yes it is your fault(joke)

And they have shown some videos of him practicing today.

Like Vnzla said... there's a good chance that right now Granger isn't better defensively (or offensively) than OJ. Granger has missed a lot of basketball with a small blip of practice in the preseason and then several more missed games.

Whether age and injury will ever allow Granger to be what he once was might be up for debate, but Granger being ready after barely having a chance to practice yet seems a tad bit hopeful. Especially with a team that is winning at a team record clip so has no glaring need to rush him back.

Most of the skepticism about injuries has been because he wasn't practicing for such a protracted period of time, not because he wasn't out there the first chance he could get... IMHO.....

He may still be that player that comes back to contribute... when he's ready. But until then... keep practicing and finding that rhythm and wind.
Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

He's had two setbacks rushing into things. He needs to be conservative, especially if the team is clicking along without him.

That's what worries me here. My opinion of OJ's play right now is not very high, especially on offense. I was also under the impression that Danny had started practicing regularly with the team again during the road trip, but I haven't been following this very closely so maybe I was wrong about that?

I'm hoping for the best, but if we're seriously not sure that Danny can contribute at a similar level to Orlando Johnson or Solomon Hill then that really has me worried as to what sort of ceiling he even has this year.

I was hoping for 70% Danny. To me OJ equals about 40% percent Danny (maybe even less offensively since OJ's in a shooting slump). Maybe I'm just reading into it all too much, this is part of why I haven't tried to pay too much attention to Danny's progress this year...

Fishy? I really don't know what to say. You can see from the interview in the standalone thread that he's talking about specific things he doesn't want to hit the floor until he's got them fixed. Why should anyone force him to come back sooner than he feels he's ready to come back?

This isn't a DRose playoffs situation, this is a 19-3 early in the season situation. The exact same thing that would make this an OK game for him to ease himself in also makes it OK for him to say he'd rather take a little more time on the practice floor first.

Same. This story jumped the shark a long time ago. There's too much else to focus on with this team right now.

Doesn't this kind of contradict what we have been hearing from Danny. Prior to the SA game he stated the trainers were holding him back and he was ready. Maybe he meant practice.

oh well,, I get not rushing him back... just looking forward to his return as much as the next Pacer fan.
