Good grammar is a nice goal, but not really imperative in this more modern, ad hoc forum. Good communication is imperative. I can get past most of the mistakes and typos, but what I cannot get past (and so these posts are LITERALLY passed) is the failure to use paragraphs.

    It is PREROGATIVE not perogative.

Just realized I used no instead of know in my last post here, in the grammar thread no less.
Does it bother anyone else when someone uses good instead of well? I had a teacher that pounded this into my head and now I get a little frustrated about it. Drove my parents nuts for awhile with it. I think they know what an adverb and an adjective are now.

Something that comes to mind is a fun little word game that Mark used to play during his
    broadcasts.

Someone would challenge him by giving him a really obscure or not often used word, and
Mark would pick a good time to somehow work the word into his broadcast before the end
    of the evening.

I really liked that, and was wondering if anyone else here enjoyed listening to that too?

    Yes, good example.

The problem, however, is that it's such a stupid way to spell it. (February, subtle, pneumonia, etc.) Part of the complexity of this whole discussion is that language evolves. Many of the "proper" words being used on this thread were considered wrong and un-grammar-like a hundred years ago according to the 1910 dictionaries. One person's grammatical error may be another man's cutting edge thinking.

Am I the only person who actually pronounces the first R in February?

I agree, as long as someone isn't just constantly making mistake after mistake poor grammar usually isn't a big deal for me. Other than no paragraphs, the only thing that always bothers me is the "a part" vs "apart" that I mentioned already.

You could probably write a book just from watching/listening to a few derrick rose interviews. Also saw in an article about the latest Matt Barnes tweet where Chris Paul said "Man, he's not afraid of nothing"

I go out of my way to never correct someone's grammar, unless I am genuinely baffled by the meaning of what he said. So, I'm treating this thread like a "tips, pointers, general knowledge" sort of thing.

That said, a lot of these "issues" don't bother me. The double negative is one of those. It's actually more common in other languages (like Russian), where it is grammatically correct. One would sound funny for not using it, as it is used to intensify the meaning of the expression.

The best part is, it was widely used in English until the Enlightenment, unless someone corrects me on that (I'm not 100% sure).

That was my general intent on starting the thread and also to serve as a reference for the common and not so common mistakes many of us make. Many times my brain thinks the correct thing but the fingers type something else. Like no and know.

How about when someone says "I don't got one of those", instead of "I don't have one of those".

I notice the word "got" being misused almost every day.

One that annoys me, a person that thinks they're better than everyone else and is annoyingly smug is a prima donna. It's not premadonna. Premadonna is Cher or something.

Two of my all time favs from the sporting world:

    "He disrespected me!"

    and

    "Lashyear."

A note on my attitude about the whole subject: It doesn't "annoy" me. I think it just Americanisms. It's quaint.

When I was a little kid and heard that word I thought it was "pre-Madonna" which I took to meaning literally before Madonna was around. I never understood it but hey, whatever. Apparently I'm not the only one, I saw someone on Reddit posted the same thing
