    Default Hibbert and Drummond tiff?

    From The Detroit News: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/2...#ixzz2k4FOkw2C

“To tell you the truth I was a fan of his until tonight,” Hibbert said Tuesday. “He is a real good prospect, but it seemed like he was running his mouth a little bit tonight. He has a tremendous future, but I was a fan of his. I thought he was supposed to have a breakout year this year. Best of luck to him. He can dunk the ball real well and he can block shots and he can rebound. He is going to have a bright future — but I was a fan of his.”

Hibbert doesn’t like yapping on the court. Drummond knows that and admits to trying to agitate him. It was nothing personal. He was simply doing his job and does not care that his fan club lost a member.

“If I lost a fan, I can’t be mad about it,” Drummond said. “If he complained about me talking, that is part of the game. I’m doing what I can do to get in his head, and it obviously worked because he noticed. So I was just trying to play my game and get into his.”

    ...

Hibbert said he will remember the talk next time the two teams play.

“If he goes about his business a certain way, then I am going to go about my business a certain way,” Hibbert said. “And if he wants to go down that path and start it that way that’s fine. There is no love lost and the best to him.”

    Drummond shrugged.

“My goal was to not make it easy for him,” Drummond said. “It was to make it harder to get his shots, like it will throughout the season. The jump hook I tried to bang him to get him off his spot — that is what we worked on in practice. If he is mad about that, then he needs to get used to it.”

The rematch is Dec. 16 in Indianapolis.
    Seems ... uncharacteristic of Roy.

Yeah saw this on basketball twitter. General consensus, congrats to Drummond on getting in Roy's head (?), but Roy still comes out on top. We kicked their ***.

Drummond kept bumping Roy when they'd be running down the floor.

Hibbert is the better player right now, so a little gamesmanship from Drummond to narrow the gap makes sense. Gotta do what you can to win.

Yeah, and Roy putting out there that he doesn't like a guy talking trash to him isn't the best move.

If Roy is going to get 7 blocks, while people are chirping in his ear, I can only hope more try to emulate it.

Hibbert had an 8/10/2/7 line where Drummond had a 6/9/0/1 line. I think he doesn't like it but it doesn't bother him that much. He was talking back at Drummond in the game. It probably just makes him angry. Explains why he looked so deliriously happy when he stuffed Drummond's post shot attmpt

If hibbert loved playing against Andre last season when all four games were over by halftime, then this is an improvement.

Hibbert is at the level that Andre is aspiring to reach as a center. If they didn't have an adversarial relationship on the floor, I'd be pissed. If 3 years from now Roy and Andre are the two best centers in the east and they can't stand to be in the same room with each other, then we all win as basketball fans.

I hope Andre gets Roy's best effort for the rest of their careers. He'll improve faster that way.

I don't think it's a non story as much as it is a non-issue. This is certainly newsworthy, just not a problem.

Andre's one common worry among fans was his happy go lucky attitude would stunt his growth. I found this very encouraging.

How much of an influence do you guys think Rasheed had on Drummond doing this? I noticed right away how Drummond kept bumping hibbert off the ball and up and down the court. Seemed to me right away Drummond was trying to get in his head.

Rasheed has been trying to toughen up Monroe and drummond from day one. That's what Dumars specifically hired him for.

The refs were allowing all sorts of contact from full court that night. At the time, I was noticing how much they let Will Bynum foul in the back court. I thought that was kind of strange since in recent history the refs tended to not allow that.

I'd expect that to continue. Two physical teams that size banging all night, the refs know going in if they whistle all the contact, fans will be watching subs finish out the game.

Monroe had to deal with that as well against west and hibbert. He wasn't getting his usual calls under the rim.

Frankly I thought both teams adjusted really well to how the game was called, I hope the officiating doesn't change the next 3 games.

That makes perfect sense I honestly thought about Rasheed as soon as I saw it lol not a bad thing either because you want your bigs to be tough.

Just hours after he was hired, he was in summer league telling drummond if he didn't give him a target to feed the post, he was going to hit him in the head with the ball until he did

Hibbert will never forget this! /green
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

I like their front court, they aren't as good as the Pacers at this point, nearly. Their backcourt and the fact that Josh Smith has been evidently given the green light to jack up threes...that's their problem.

Drummond has a ways to go, he has almost no offensive game other than put backs and finishes. Roy can hit the jumper and score in the post over either shoulder. It's not even that close at this point. Good for Drummond to give a good effort. I'm guessing at the next game he'll be in foul trouble early and be a non factor. He does have potential though, it's way better than the aloof reputation he had coming into the league.

He is playing ball. Playing it quite well, actually. So long as that maintains itself, I have zero issue with what he said.
