Thread: Pacers/Pelicans Postgame Thread 10/30/13

Stephenson kept the team in it in the 2nd quarter. George was unstoppable, but Stephenson had 1.33 PPP.

A 2-0 start is a 2-0 start, but being that the Pacers always seem to start the season sluggish, I wish they would have taken the pre-season a little more seriously. I said it would be hard to just flick the switch and some disagreed with me, but that's exactly what I see now. I still think it will take a little while for the Pacers to get rolling. Lets hope they can continue to win in the process.

Phoenix doesn't have any pieces do they?
At this point I think they would take empty expirings just to get rid of him. He'd need to put up MVP numbers to change their minds.

Pacers are the only team so far tonight, through ten games, to win on the road. Shows how hard it is to win on the opponents home opener
Especially on the second leg of a back to back with travel in between, not to mention coming off the emotion of your own home opener. Look, the Heat lost to the worst roster in the NBA tonight. I think that this win by the Pacers was a real gut check.

2nd half showed how important Roy is to this team! Others may get the numbers, but none are more important!

Well, the Heat are just idiots. I think Dwyane Wade just might have made up that 4 point difference.

Love PG24 taking over, Stephenson staying aggressive even if a sloppy game for him, clutch defense. Like a lot of little things: the improvement from DJ to Watson even if Watson is far from an offensive threat, Ian keeping the team afloat on rim protection, team not letting ticky-tack calls bowl them over.

Pretty bad execution by the Pacers for the most part, but still definitely things to like. What concerns me most is the PF position. It's clear Scola can't play a lick of D. West, on a good day, is a fairly average defender. Neither player can match up against athletic PFs. I'll assume West's play to start the year has been an aberration from norm (did he borrow Ian's hands?), and I'll assume Scola will get more comfortable with his role and the players around him...but these guys aren't getting any quicker or more agile, and there are going to be teams that really take advantage of that this year.

So Paul George through two games

    28 PPG, 6 RPG, 5 APG, 1.5 BPG, 1.5 SPG, 3 TOPG, .487 FG%, .432 3PT%

Side note:: Miles is killing it with the Suns. So glad he is! Dude was a professional here.

    By me ^^

West is going to look slow against a young team like that. I don't think he's lost much if anything from last year.
I think this is the most accurate assessment. Granted, dude's got a bad case of fumblitis to start the season, but Anthony Davis is a nightmare match-up for West. West doesn't have the length nor the athleticism to consistently succeed against him.

Yeah but they are going to be asking for picks and at least one young decenB player right? I don't think Phoenix wants to give up anything right now, I could see Boston doing it, Bobcats?, Cleveland? if he keeps playing like this a lot of teams are going to be all over him.

Nice start Pacers. And if the Heat continue to rest Wade at the first sign of trouble we may very well be able to end up with Homecourt advantage.

They got zero offers of any kind last summer. At 3 years and $46 million for a guy they (A) just paid another guy $43 million to replace and (B) can drop with another debilitating injury at any time, NOLA will take any sort of cap relief offer just to wash their hands of it.

I'm sure they are hoping he keeps playing like this. Not because it proves he can play, but because it proves he's healthy enough to play.

If he keeps it up defiantly, but he has to keep it up first. One game makes not a season.

Paul George carried us all night, but I think it was fitting that Hibbert, Hill, and West came up so huge in the fourth quarter. Scola had a great third quarter where Davis couldn't figure out how to guard him and all he was doing was just running around a screen above the free throw line. Anthony Davis is a nightmare matchup for those two with how athletic he is, but I think it's strong cerebral players that really give him the most trouble. Despite how "old" and "slow" he was making them both look, he could only get 3 blocks on guys he could literally jump circles around.

I hope the Hill and West hate dies down some, especially considering how much flak Hill and West were taking throughout the game thread. Seriously, take a gander if you haven't already.

Oh PD how I've missed the game threads.

Already starting the season out hating on our own players who actually made big plays at the end, and already debating about how good Plumlee is.

    PD is a special place
Stop quoting people I have on ignore!

Yep....totally....read the 1st 3 pages.....I know that Hill sucked in the 1st half...but he was typical GH3 in the second half and had ice running in his veins. As for West...I admit....I was concerned when he came back in. Scola just seemed solid...but I'm guessing that he was gassed towards the end.

Hill was so shaky early and so solid late. West doing West things in crunch time.
