    Granger to Miss Three Weeks
    Official Release

    October 28, 2013 | 10:00 a.m. EDT

Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger will miss approximately three weeks as he rehabilitates a strained left calf injury sustained in the preseason. The length of time is a precautionary measure as the team wants to ensure Granger is physically ready to play in light of missing all but five games last season due to his knee injury. The rehabilitation time is strictly related to the calf injury.

... If I said I was surprised by this I wouldn't be honest.

If I get any flak for being worried I am going to go nuts.

This is the beginning of the end for Granger as a Pacer.

So a calf injury is going to end his career?

correction: I didn't realize you meant just as a Pacer.

Bummer to hear this but unlike last year we have the depth to deal with it this year.

More than anything I feel bad for Danny who has to be dying to get out there and play.

Why would someone give you flak for being worried? Saying you are worried isn't proclaiming from the highest mountain that you knew this was a career ending injury two years before the injury even happened.

I don't know what's worse, three more weeks without Danny or hearing about it from vnzla. Just kidding! I know which one will be worse.

This is officially the line of delineation for me. I will be going through the stages of preparing myself for not relying on Danny at all this year. If he is a factor, great. But my hope is waning.

No I don't. I think he will come back and be productive until another little injury. And he won't be available fully in the playoffs. Granger will be the new Peja.

He will go to another team next year have a solid year. And then finds a Battier role on some team.

So the "minor injury" is so "minor" that he has to take about 4 weeks off to recover(26 days to be exact) interesting.....

It's a calf injury this time, and in a month or two it'll be something else.

Calf injuries need rest. Let him rest. We'll see what happens.

Lance isn't holding down the fort.....he is a major structural part of the fort.

I've seen where players are out over 4 weeks with a deep thigh bruise.

I am not reading too much into this at all.

We're fine w/o Granger. We were fine without Granger last year and the team is expected to have improved greatly over the offseason, between player development and the improved bench. Anyone who was seriously counting on him being a significant contributor was in lala land. Anything he gives the team is a bonus, like last year. And like last year the Pacers will be good with or without him.

At least this should put to rest the ridiculous idea that Lance should be coming off the bench.

Yup. Can't say I'm surprised by the news, but I'd have really liked Danny going out with a bang this year. Still can happen of course. But I hope Danny won't press to come back until he's truly ready.

That really sucks. More missed time. Even if he gets better, it's a downer on Tip-Off Eve.

    http://orthopedics.about.com/od/spra...calfstrain.htm
    Symptoms of a Calf Strain

An acute calf strain can be quite painful, depending on the severity of the injury. Calf strains are usually graded as follows:
    • Grade I Calf Strain: Mild discomfort, often minimal disability. Usually minimal or no limits to activity.
    • Grade II Calf Strain: Moderate discomfort with walking, and limited ability to perform activities, such as running and jumping; may have swelling and bruising associated.
    • Grade III Calf Strain: Severe injury that can cause inability to walk. Often patients complain of muscle spasm, swelling and significant bruising.

Since the Pacers were thinking Danny would only be out a couple games it appears they thought the calf strain a grade 1, where now they think it's a grade 2.

    Calf Strain Treatments

Treatment of a calf strain is usually guided by the severity of the injury. Resting a pulled calf muscle is the key to successful treatment. As a general rule of thumb, if you have a calf strain, you can do activities that don't aggravate your injury. You should rest until you are pain free to allow the injured muscle to heal. Resting inadequately may prolong your recovery.

    Calf Strain Healing Time

The length of time needed for healing a calf strain depends on the severity of the injury. A typical grade I calf strain will heal in 7 to 10 days, a grade II injury within about 4 to 6 weeks, and a grade III calf strain within about 3 months. The most common injury is a grade II calf strain that takes about 6 weeks for complete healing.

It's been 10 days since Granger strained his calf, so if he is out three more weeks that would be 4 1/2 weeks.

It's just a bummer for Danny.

But being cautious right now is the best way to go. No need to rush him.

I would remind you C-3PO's that last year with the knee it was 'out indefinitely' and then being coy with specifics and timetables, and that this is specifically his strained calf, three week projection, which isn't considered atypical, and both the team and Danny himself sure look and sound like this is not, in fact, a big deal. Y'all are just paranoid after last season's knee trouble. I don't blame being concerned, but try not to apply any razors to wrists just yet.

Definitely sucks, thanks alot Vogel! Worries were justified when he was force feeding Granger minutes in all those blowout losses early on in preseason. This coach as made alot of questionable calls over the last year when it comes to who is in the game at certain times....

I'd rather him be out a month, than re-injure it 2 weeks from now and completely tear the muscle.

There should only be 2 preseason games max.
