I'm glad I read his quotes because earlier when I had only seen the headline, I was more dismissive of this.

But to Rose's credit, he had a thoughtful response that he elaborated on, and he doesn't seem to really think about any team as specifically a rival. I see where he's coming from.

Really since the 2011 playoffs, regular season notwithstanding, we've been passing ships in the night due to the circumstances.
To be fair....isn't most of what DRose said the same type of comments that we were posting in one of the recent Pacers/Heat Rivals thread?

To me, when one discusses Rivals....it suggests that your opponent is on the same level as you are....both are comprable to each other. I think that the Pacers/Bulls are on the same level and therefore makes sense to consider them Rivals.....only cuz both Teams have something to prove. But they can't prove that they are on the same level as the Heat ( the Best Team in the League until they lose in the NBA Playoffs ) and therefore are considered "rivals" until they actually beat them all.

I had forgotten that one of the positive things about season ending injuries is that fans (temporarily) stop *****ing about nonsense sort of involving that player.

Kornheiser on PTI thinks only the Nets and Bulls pose a threat to the Heat in the east. Apparently the team that took Miami to 7 games in the Eastern Conference Finals last season ceased to exist.

The Darren Collison comment is precisely where I knew Rose head his head up his...um...you know. What a joke.

There is a lot of different players from that heated exchange with the Bulls from a few years ago. Most notably Jeff Foster, Tyler Hansbrough, McRoberts and the other players Bull's fans despised.
"We've got to be very clear about this. We don't want our players hanging around with murderers," said Larry Bird, Pacers president.

If he thinks that group was a rivalry, he's going to be surprised with the current squad. Really, whatever he thinks of the Pacers, he just doesn't want to give them respect. That's fine with me. The Pacers are going to have to earn the respect and that's by beating Chicago and Miami. Until that happens, they aren't getting the respect.

I honestly don't get the Rose criticism here. He seems to me to just not really think of ANY team as a 'rival'. He also talks about us being a great team.

The key players have changed so much on our end since that Pacers v Bulls playoff series. I think his use of Darren Collison (his primary assignment) was just indicative of the player turnover since Rose last played. I don't think it will take 2 years for him to consider us rivals again.

Again, the Pacers will beat the Bulls relatively easily in six games this year.

I am pretty sure the Bulls have had a similar amount of turnover from that season also.

I think in the sense of they are the Champions. And as a championship is the primary goal of a competitor, the Heat currently are THE rivalry in his eyes.

Apparently, so does Vegas. They give the Bulls a better chance of beating Miami than Indy.

True. But our changes have been mostly in the starting lineup. Roy is better, West is here, George is better, Hill is starting, Lance is key for us. They're still Rose, Noah, Deng. I'm actually a pretty big fan of Taj Gibson. If I was a Bulls fan, I'd be begging for him to play more than Carlos the Boozer.

oops, ok, the Bulls would be the second team I would name.

    My bad.
Don't think the Grizz are similar to us anymore. They have zero dynamic wing play.

Rose obviously didn't watch the NBA last season. The Pacers are going to man handle the Bulls and win the division

That's because the majority of folks are overrating Rose's return, while ignoring a few key facts:

    Granger is returning.
Pacers bench should be much improved.
    PG is a year older.
    Hibbert.
    Deng is degrading rapidly.
Noah will be lucky to play 60 games this season.
    Boozer.

But yeah, give me the team that gets Rose back while losing Nate Rob/Bellinelli and have Noah dealing with foot problems and Deng getting hurt every 5 games over a clearly improved Pacers team that was one of the 3 best in the NBA the last half of the year including the playoffs.

    *Deep breath* ****. The. Bulls.

With that said, the Bulls have owned us in the preseason.

That's fair, I suppose I undervalue the preseason more than most. I truly care about one thing, and one thing only before 10/29: Injuries.

Any word yet on when the Bulls will hold their 'October Champions' banner raising ceremony?

    What does that mean? Nothing.

The Bulls won a couple of close games in the preseason. Big deal.

So.....Bulls consider Heat a rival and not Pacers..... Pacers consider Heat a rival but not Bulls....... and Heat consider neither Bulls or Pacers a rival.......makes sense

Rivals, smchivals. All that really matters is this: From the Heat's perspective (which is the correct perspective), the Pacers, Bulls, and everyone else are pretenders until they take Miami off of their three year Eastern Conference champion throne.
