Danny padding his rebound numbers in the last two minutes. I wonder if Lance thinks this is escalating the war...

The intimidating Danny-OJ combo has shut down the paint.

He did in the second game, and played extremely well. 11points in 12 minutes 80% shooting.

The Solomon/OJ debate for the fourth wing will be a heated debate throughout the season (I predict).

    Watched the Game.

Although Pacers lost it, but not a problem.

Glad to see Danny reassembling the old Danny, except missed like all of the lay ups.
But he was driving well, cutting well, splitting the defense...
At a moment I thought he performed better than Lance, then he miss another few lay ups which bring me back to reality.
    Danny looks good to me.

The first time I watched a game this season. Feel good.

Not bad overall. The starters once again showed that they can turn it up in the 3rd quarter just like the Bulls game.

Roy moves nicely and it seems like he can handle Dwight.

David only had an ok game but he seems to be in game shape.

PG shows signs of being able to turn it up offensively and go on scoring sprees. He isn't facilitating a lot, though.

    GH3 continues to look solid.

Lance was aggressive with the second unit and I want to see him be a bit more aggressive with the starters as well.

DG had a very good game. He played a lot of minutes withouts looking too tired and he also drove a lot. Had some nice drives, some good passes, his shot was on and this was also the first time that he looked good defensively.

CJ seems like a very nice pick-up. He can shoot and that's something that we want our PGs to do. He also seems like an ok defender. Better than DJ, at least. He seems a bit turnover prone, though.

Ian needs to rebound more. Motiejunas got the best of him. He challenged some shots nicely, though.

Copeland needs to learn the defensive rotations. It's probable that he is still a bit too used to NY's constant switching defense and messes up here since we don't switch and that causes him to be out of position. In any case, he needs to watch a lot of tape and learn our defensive scheme. Offensively, he had a nice drive that he made and a decent up and under in a post-up that he missed. His 3 didn't fall but most of them were good shots (only 2 of them striked me as bad shots since they were delayed).
Tonight, all flags must burn, in place of steeples.
Autonomy must return into the hands of the people.

Eh. As long as we don't play this rotation in the RS we'll be good. The starters + Granger did great. The subs/starters mix did great. The all-subs-plus-Danny squad was rough.

The solution? Don't play the subs as a unit.
    So...

    CJ Watson
    Lance Stephenson
    Paul George
    Luis Scola
    Roy Hibbert

    George Hill
    Orland Johnson
    Danny Granger
    David West
    Ian Mahinimi

Nah. Last week I said Hill, Granger-or-Stephenson, George, West, Hibbert as the starters and Watson, Johnson, Granger-or-Stephenson, Scola, Mahinimi as the bench. That should be the starting unit but as long as you want starters on the floor with bench players, I wouldn't mind those line ups. Reason for that... I feel like there wouldn't be much of a drop off from Hill/West to Watson/Scola when you have Hibbert, George and Lance out there with them. And Hill, Granger and West would be able to carry Johnson and Mahinimi. Although, I'm not sure anyone really needs to carry OJ when it comes to scoring.

Ok so I just got done watching the second half(yep I went to be early )

I like what I saw from Danny, he was moving better and looks more confident, still don't like him in the starting unit because at this moment he is huge defensive liability put him against good starting players and he is going to be burned a lot.

Roy looks strong but I don't think he is back to playoffs Roy yet.

Paul George, wow this guy looks much better at everything, needs to cut down his TO's though.

Hill looks improved too, I like his decision making.

Watson, I like what I see.

    Ian, meh.

    West, he is in shape.

Copeland, I wonder how long is Frank going to try to play him before he goes to the bench ala Gerald Green? Can't play D, likes to take the crappiest shot possible, meh.

Lance, I was dissapointed in the first half but then he came alive on the second half, it looks to me like he is on a short leash or something.

S Hill, he is a rookie.

The team played better overall(in the second half) there is still a lot of work to do.

We've been outrebounded in all 3 games and the roster changes really don't excuse that and Houston didn't play as big as they will in the regular season. I hope it's just a preseason thing but our bigs need to put more effort into rebounding then they did tonight.
It's very encouraging to see Granger be able to lead the team in minutes and play as effectively as he did. I still think Frank is using the preseason the way he should be but I'd like to see how Danny plays with the starters for the next few games now and make up his mind on the who is going to get those minimal 4th wing minutes so we can move on.
I think it's obvious that Copeland is almost the odd man out now when you look at what he brings versus Scola. Use Copeland as a specialist and move on. He can learn the defensive rotations in practice.

Unfortunately, the problem that we had last season is still there. The Starters ( including Granger and/or Lance ) was able to shutdown the other Team and proved to be the better Starting 5 then thr other Team. Whereas when the 2nd unit started to filter in, the Team would slowly falter and stop scoring and not able to effectively slow the other Team down.

I am going to attribute much of this to chemistry, unfamilairity with each other....etc...or at least hope that this is the case.

Also, Dwight looked really bad out there with the Rockets. I have no idea why the Rockets pursued him so much when they had a cheaper and as effective Asik on their roster. They could have gone after Josh Smith or even Al jefferson and done better. I don't get the sense that Dwight Howard is a good fit for the Team.
Ash from Army of Darkness: Good...Bad...I'm the guy with the gun.

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

Howard looks to me like a role player on that team you can see him asking for the ball and be ignored by his teammates, I expect him to cry pretty soon about his touches.

There is still a lot of experimenting and learning each other going on, I wouldn't be too concerned about it at this point. Better to wait and see how they do once the regular season gets on its way than worry about the pre-season. Especially since Scola didn't play.

Dwight didn't look good, but he still looks better than he did last year when we played the Lakers.

I didn't see the game, but this preseason, I just have a hard time putting much stock into anything. Not only is it preseason, but our team traveled halfway around the globe for these last two games. That travel is brutal.

We might start the season off slow because of it too. I'm not going to get too concerned about anything other than players not looking healthy, which I don't think is the case so far.

I can't believe you say this about Granger, when Granger and starters absolutely dominated that 3rd qtr. Danny was very effective with the starters, he played some great help defense as well blocking Howard from behind and stealing the ball from Howard as he made his move to the rim. I mean you said you just watched the 2nd half, then how can you say Danny was huge defensive liability when he was leading the defense and whittling away that lead. Once Vogel pulled the starters the Rockets quickly built that lead back up. That 3rd qtr should tell you exactly how good that that starting unit would be on a regular basis. Rockets had no answer at any position. That unit is big and they are long armed.
Granger was getting burned some but thats why you have Hibbert. Thats his role. Pacers should be fine defensively whether is Granger or Lance as long as they, as Vogel puts it, "Help the Helper". I think the bigger issue with Granger if he will commit to the offensive glass like Lance does. Otherwise they will continue to get beat on leak outs.

Copeland needs to be a bit more decisive, 2 of his 3's he second guessed himself before launching. He has a really quick release though, but they have to toughen him up on defense a bit. Copeland isn't any worse than West on the defensive end in my opinion. I'm really looking forward to seeing him get regular minutes in the rotation and see how he settles in.

I'm just not sure about Lance, I think he has played his way out of the starting line up, maybe he mentally already knew this at the start of training camp and he's just lost some of that mojo. Even when he was pushing it up with that helter skelter pace, he looked like a turnover waiting to happen.

Ok, the third quarter is starting and I'm watching specifically to see Danny's defense against Parsons. Other than biting on a couple of pump fakes, I don't remember any errors from Danny on D from when I watched this morning, but for this quarter I'll try to focus on it.

At 9:29 it looks like Danny might have been about to get beat on the drive by Parsons, but Dwight was called for the offensive foul.

Next defensive play, Danny blocks Dwight's shot out of bounds.

Next defensive play, Danny grabs the loose ball and goes towards the other end; gets fouled by Harden.

7:05 Danny gets rubbed off a screen by Parsons, but Parsons throws to Harden, who misses the three.

6:43 Danny bites on pump fake, but Parsons immediately called for traveling. Hard to tell if that's a mistake by Danny or if the bite was justified due to Parsons weird footwork.

5:17 Danny steals ball from Dwight.

A big part of rebounding is effort. Our effort levels have been horrible in this pre-season and that's why we're losing. The players do not put up enough effort in order to win.
