I don't like it. Running is not how you win football games anymore.

Good thing we have Luck! I love this move! 1st rounder is a touch steep though.

You still have to run the ball to win in January. We won the Super Bowl because we ran the ball and stopped the run, not because Manning threw for 400 yards every game.

I would tell that to the 49ers, who ran the ball more than they threw it last year.

And running a post-up heavy inside-out offense is not how you win basketball games anymore.

I know they're different leagues, but my point is that as long as you do what you do better than your opposition than you're going to be a successful team.

You ALWAYS need to be able to run the football. That doesn't mean it has to be the focal point of your offense, but you must be able to do it in January. The later years of Manning's career were squandered by poor running games. I absolutely love the trade. The odds of our first rounder being better than Richardson are slim.

I'm really curious how this trade came about.

With the recent personnel losses, seems like OL would have been something the FO was shopping for but not an RB. Not that an RB upgrade doesn't make sense, but it seems like it would not have been the highest priority of the FO.

So, assuming they were not reaching out making calls for different RBs, I guess Cleveland was working the phones shopping Richardson? I am convinced this has to be the case, because I think there are several other RBs that probably would have come to mind before Richardson. Again, that is not a knock on Richardson at all. Merely my perspective that he would not be one of the first RBs the FO would have targeted.

Sure would like some inside scoop on this.

Some think he is the best back behind Adrian Peterson. I don't think you can judge him fairly yet. Cleveland had very little threat of a passing attack so teams could stuff the box. Add to this the bad O-line and it's not a good recipe for success. I think the Colts should use him heavily as a pass catcher out of the backfield personally. A safety or quick release valve for Andrew Luck. Just the threat of a running game will open up more for our talented receivers.

Oh yeah because it was all Joe Flacco who led Baltimore's offense to a Super Bowl championship and Ray Rice had little to do with it...

The importance of the running game has not changed. You need a solid RB if you want your offense to be very good and well balanced. You can't rely on throwing on every down, no matter how great your QB is.

As far as us, we were desperate for a RB for the future. Ahmad is signed to a one year deal and who knows with Vick now. Was he ever going to be our featured back moving forward?

Even though we gave up a lot, look at what we got in return. Getting Trent is huge for us moving forward.

Richardson was used to not only winning at Alabama, but being on top all the time. Then he goes to Cleveland, which might be one of the worst-run franchises in pro sports. Now, he's coming to Indy, surrounded by players and management who expect to win every week. Hopefully the change of scenery will do him good.

I understand the concern, because he's had injuries and what not, but that 2014 1st isn't a guaranteed good player. Could be a bust, who knows, and yeah, he could be a great player, too. Just depends where we end up picking.

With Richardson we got one of the highlight rookies from last year, and I think he's going to be reliable, especially with Bradshaw taking carries, too. I know he's done nothing so far this year, and that's a little concerning, (he's the best RB on my fantasy team, and I selected him as a keeper before I became biased with him due to him donning the horseshoe) but there is nothing to say that's not just a product of being on the Browns, who have all played bad.

Really like the trade. We get a very good running back and this puts in better position to win.

Unless of course Pep wants to run the ball more...

Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Am I the only one who was overjoyed with this? He's a good RB. He hasn't had a good start this year, but a combo of him and Bradshaw, two bruising type RB's is going to be great for us.

Yeah, it's a passing league, but come on, we can't just pass every down. Some of the elite teams that are passing first have at least respectable RB's. Seattle and San Fran to mention a few.

I think this only helps, in a season that's so far had a lot of bad news with injuries, it's nice for some good news.

Very talented player! I like it. With Richardson and Bradshaw we should be able to run the ball even with our limited O-line. Bradshaw looked pretty decent last week even. Threat of a running game will surely slow teams a little from teeing off on Luck.

I am not too keen on giving up a first round pick in general but he dramatically improves the run game

Also, we now have the #1 and #3 picks from this draft. I think having two of the top three picks from 2012 more than offsets what we might have gotten from our first round pick in 2014.

How good is Richardson in pass blocking and catching out of the backfield?
