Pollard Activated, Harrison to Injured List

    Pacers.com Report | Jan. 14, 2004

    Pollard

    Harrison
Scot Pollard was activated from the injured list today and will be in uniform for tonight's game against Phoenix in Conseco Fieldhouse. To make room for Pollard on the roster, David Harrison was placed on the injured list with a concussion suffered Tuesday night in Memphis.

Pollard, 29, has averaged 8.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in six games this season. He was placed on the injured list Dec. 3 with a sore lower back. Harrison, a first-round pick from Colorado, had led the Pacers in games played with 32, averaging 20.0 minutes, 6.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.56 blocked shots. He is among the NBA leaders with a .582 field-goal percentage. Harrison must miss at least five games, which would keep him out through Jan. 21. He will be eligible to return Jan. 22 against Washington in Conseco Fieldhouse.

Now, before everyone throws a hissy fit about DH being out for 5 games, a bad concussion can certainly warrant him sitting for a while. I had a concussion a couple years ago, and while I had some short term memory loss, I wasn't staggering like David, or kept overnight for observation. My balance wasn't great, and it redefined the word "headache" to mean "someone is digging into my skull with a hunter's knife". I missed almost two weeks of my desk job, so don't be surprised if David's out for a while.

I'm bummed that he's gonna be out for a while, but I'm not surprised.

However, this should give the team a nice chance to showcase Pollard, just in case there are any suckers I mean takers out there...
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

This is so odd considering how I had some terrible things to say about him last year but I'm actually excited to hear that Pollard will be back in the lineup.

Well... "excited" may be a bit of an exagerration but I'm very optomistic about his impact the rest of the season.

anybody who gets a concussion should be forced to sit out at least 5 games.

Yep. Just like football players should be out at bare minimum a week, and racecar drivers should miss at least one, probably two. I still can't believe Dale Jr. raced the week after a concussion. Damn lucky he didn't kill somebody out there.

I presume he will be traveling with the team. I am going to be in New Orleans next week and will be at the game Wednesday. I really wanted to see just how big he is.

I am looking forward to seeing my first game in person this year.

Funny story. I ask my wife if she would like to go to New Orleans for her birthday (Thursday) and of course stay at Harrahs (actually the "W" hotel). She jumped at the suggestion. I told we could go out Wednesday night as well and it just so happens the Pacers are in town. Surprise !! Surprise !!

Hey, I told her "You got to take the bad with the good".

I've had a concoction before Kstat. It wasn't that bad. Can't you tell?

I'm upset with David and happy Pollard is back. Seems like we've had a lot of swaps this year.

I'm surprised that Harrison went on the IR but then I haven't actually done a headcount this year for the Pacers to see if he 'had' to go on there to get some people back off it.

Considering it looked bad, it doesn't surprise me that he'd miss a few games. It surprises me that they'd go ahead a give up 5 games for him tho. But, as I said, I haven't bothered to count active players of late. (Can you call Curry an 'active' player? )

As for Pollard-I hope he he's not hindered by the injury and can continue on. As much as I was unimpressed with his apparent lack of effort last season (which could've been injury related) I was impressed by his effort this season when we obviously needed him.

We'll see how it plays out.

Too bad about Harrison, but it's not really surprising considering the injury. Let his brain rest.

I'm really happy about Pollard though. We've needed rebounding help in the worst way, and he's a very good defensive rebounder. He looked good this year so far; let's hope it continues. Big bonus. He won't put any buckets in like David, but at the same time will bring much better rebounding and perhaps some more tip-ins. Basically when Jeff sits we bring in the "other" one, only instead of mostly O rebounds it's D rebounds, and he's a little slower, but also bigger and still hustles.

This is a dent in my plan for Big Dave to replace Jeff in the starting line-up by the end of this year, but only a minor one.

    You can do it, David!
