    Default Delone Carter traded

    http://www.indystar.com/article/2013...-WR-David-Reed

The Indianapolis Colts have traded running back Delone Carter to the Baltimore Ravens for receiver David Reed, as first reported by The Indianapolis Star.

The move doesn’t come as a surprise.

Carter, a 2011 fourth-round draft pick, was projected as the fourth running back behind Ahmad Bradshaw, Vick Ballard and Donald Brown. If the Colts carry four running backs in the regular season, the fourth might be rookie Kerwynn Williams, who is an option as a kick returner.

“This trade gives us a chance to improve in key areas moving forward,” general manager Ryan Grigson said in a statement. “David is a very competitive football player and we welcome his style of play and energy. At the same time, we wish Delone well with his opportunity to play for another first-class organization and we thank him for his efforts.”

The 5-9, 222-pounder was drafted in the fourth round of the 2011 draft and rushed for 377 yards and 2 touchdowns on 101 carries, appearing in all 16 games with 3 starts as a rookie. But he also fumbled three times and saw his playing time drop to 122 yards

But Carter had just 122 yards and three touchdowns on 32 carries last season, appearing in 10 games.

Reed, a 6-foot, 195-pound receiver from Utah, caught 5 passes for 66 yards with the Ravens in 2012 and had one carry in 2010 and ’11. He returned 18 kicks in 2011 for an average of 29.7 yards and 21 for a 29.4-yard average, including a touchdown, in 2010. Reed, however, fumbled three times in 2011 and did not return kicks last season.
Grigson seems to like these scraps for scraps trades.

Scrub for a scrub so no big deal.

Carter was probably not going to make the team and this guy could make the team given our weakness outside our top three WRs.

I was sorta exciting reading Reed's kick return numbers. Then I got to the fumbles and him not returning kicks last year. Still, Carter was gonna get cut, at least we got something for him.

Reed was suspended a game in 2011 and fined a game check for getting busted with weed. So him and Brazill (and probably another third of the team or so) can be buddies.

Too bad we couldn't have coaxed them into trading Tandon Doss instead.....

Seems like the trade where we sent the corner from USC to the Eagles (Kevin Thomas or something). Both guys weren't going to make the roster for their team, so they swap them to places where they might fit better.

I wouldn't be surprised if Reed is on the roster for the first 4 games and is cut when Brazill gets back.

Well carter wasn't gonna make the team over any of Ballard and Bradshaw obviously. And then we have Havili at FB. And I think Brown is more reliable and more experienced than Carter. And then Williams can do kickoffs. So Carter was kinda screwed here.

Idk much about this guy, but sounds like he has a better chance to make the team than Carter did, but I doubt it happens.

Wish they could have traded Carter for someone or something to replace #75 on the O-line.

I think Reed will make the team. I highly doubt they are going to keep letting TY return kicks. Remember when they used to let Marvin return? That stopped pretty much the second they saw how good he was. I'm not saying TY is that good, only that his value to the team is enormous if he were to get hurt on a return.

Just offloading some more Polian draft junk. Might as well take a look some other longshot in the process.

I see this as a win/win for both teams. Carter was not gonna get a lot of time and he will get some more opportunity now. We needed speed on kick off and punt returns. We need to keep TY as a receiver only to better make sure to keep him healthy for the entire season.
