it'd be weird as a fan to watch a team actively tank like the Jags are. you see it so rarely in football, I wouldn't know how to watch not caring if my team won or lost.
I dont mean to sound brash, but in my 3 years in Jacksonville following the Jags was so confusing. The fans talk about how they love having a team, the team definitely brings downtown Jax a lot of business, but fans just do not come out. I saw folks talk about the games, watch the games, but very few were willing to go to the games.

I have talked about it a lot in the past, but I was always dumbfounded how as a Skins fans I hear and see of people who come from PA, NC, etc to come to games. Granted fans in Florida have the Dolphins and Tampa Bay, but it was just so baffling seeing how people say they love the Jags, but few ever showed up to games

It isn't a very good one in my opinion, but one of the excuses I've heard is that apparently Jacksonville's huge. Not population wise, but actual land area, like twice the size of Indy. But if I remember from when they had the Super Bowl (Jax hosted a SB!) their stadium's pretty centrally located in the city so I don't see why it'd be THAT big a problem.

This is true. I never did it, but one of my room mates in college drove one end of the city to the other. I forget how long it took him, but the city of Jacksonville is huge (mileage wise).

That said, I never bought that as a good excuse

Here is a link from WIKI:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacksonville,_Florida

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 874.3 square miles (2,264 km2), making Jacksonville the largest city in land area in the contiguous United States; of this, 86.66% (757.7 sq mi or 1,962 km2) is land and ; 13.34% (116.7 sq mi or 302 km2) is water.

I was not in school when they hosted the SB, but I heard the city was poppin and everyone who talks about says it was a blast. Hell, even when I was in school stores and restaurants had banners up from hosting the SB (and that game was in what...2005?)

I'm not going to get into it because it's circular and just beaten to death, I'll just say I don't think we intended to tank that season.

Certainly not at first. We put up tough fights against the Browns, Steelers, Bucs, and Chiefs. But we lost all four them. Once it became clear that this team had zero shot of going anywhere, we made sure to leave the things in place that would give us the best chance of losing. Painter would have been pulled for Dan O. much sooner if we had been honestly trying to win games. Dan O's first game as a starter was in Foxboro. Talk about throwing him to the wolves. That was after three straight home games (Atlanta, Jax, Carolina). We would have started him in one of those three if we were really trying to win.

Hey, it was a brilliant strategic decision. But there's no doubt that this organization wasn't trying to win and did everything they could to ensure that the team would have the best chance of losing once it became clear that we weren't contending for anything without Peyton.

Amendola out again, concussion most likely. That's looking like a poor investment. Justin Blackmon killing Denver though, imagine that guy with an actual QB.

Shorts is a stud too, but unfortunately for them he suffered a game-ending injury on the first series of the game. Those two form a pretty nasty WR duo. They'd have an offense if they had a real QB.

Did anyone really think the Pats weren't going to win this game?!

    C'mon now.

I was surprised they lost to the Bengals last week.

Pats may have won but they seem to have lost a lot of players.

This has been an absolutely brutal week of fantasy news for me. First I lose Julio Jones for the season. Then Cecil Shorts gets hurt in the very first series of the game today and puts up a nice goose egg. And now Demarco Murray is out for the rest of this Cowboys-Skins game with a sprained knee after being an absolute beast at the beginning.

Is there anyone who still doubts that we took the right QB?

The whole Luck/Griffin scenario is playing out exactly as I called it.

Colts can probably go as bad as 4-7 the rest of the way, finish 8-8, and still win the division

my buddy's about to win by a tenth of a point so long as Romo doesn't throw for 2.5+ yards in these last 2 minutes

While Luck will end up being the better qb, something I've agreed with all along, no need to throw in the towel on RG3 yet. He finally looks healthy for the first time this season. Had Moss not fallen down on that interception, it could have been a TD and then its a different ball game.

Personally I don't think Shanahan will ever succeed with RG3. Don't like how they use him, don't like how he calls the game for him.

Yeah, I agree. The Colts are a really good team, but those other three teams might make it the worst division in football. NFC South is pretty bad too. I don't see Atlanta salvaging much with the 1-4 start and Julio Jones injury.

I thought about em, but with Locker being out what, up to 7 more weeks or so, I'm not scared of them.

Yeah I prefer politics not bleed into my sports coverage I didn't care for his anti gun rant from last season either.

And I agree I think RG3 would be better served with someone other than Shanahan at the helm he was fortunate to have been coaching a team with John Elway and Terrell Davis years ago because that's really all he's living off of at this point.

RG3 played better, prob his best this season. It just wasn't good enough. He had some amazing runs, and considering some have said (and I honestly thought earlier this year) the option had been figured out they ran some good option plays. They just could not finish drives

Our o-line could not block guys OFF THE STREET.

Our special teams were a joe. F------- grade for them

Our time management was a joke.

I just dont know what to say. Defense shows up offense doesnt. Offense shows up defense doesnt. offense and defense try to show up special teams suck.

At this point I dont know if we right this year off and just hope RG3 gets more comfortable being a "traditional" passer. or if we get a new coach. I literally am lost. I expected to have some pains. But ever facet of the game. I mean, what did we do right (I guess Morris had a decent game....)
