    Default Restaurant help needed FAST

Todays is Mrs G's birthday and she wants to go to a new/different restaurant. Indy area please.

She likes ethnic foods (no raw fish for her though) but is allergic to cheese. North, south, downtown, east (now there's a laugh) the westside is too far away. Probably not Broad Ripple as for once she'd prefer I wasnt armed.

    HELP!!!

It's a little further west and would be a drive to Mooresville, but how about Dong's China Buffet? I went to high school with the owner, great guy, and all I've heard from others (I'm not a big Chinese food guy myself) is that it is great.

Siam Square is a great Thai place. Downtown, Fountain Square area. IMO by far the best Thai restaurant in town and I have been to all of them on the north side

Chinese, Mexican there are some pretty good ones, but nothing that I consider great.

    Dong's China Buffet?
First - one has to chuckle just a little at the name.

Second - Pick two words from the following: GOOD - CHINESE - BUFFET.

    Third - A buffet for a birthday dinner ?? This ain't Vegas.

If you're looking for Indian food, Delhi Palace isn't terrible. There's one by St. V's and one downtown. Not as cheap as I'd like but decent food

I was about to say, but Sandman doesn't have a lady therefor does not know how to take care of one on her birthday. He gets a free pass.

Like UB said Siam Square is good, I don't prefer it to Sawasdee on 86th St. near ditch, but both are good choices. My friends are generally split down the middle on which they prefer.

I now have a new list of places to take her sometime..........but for tonight, a special treat....sliders. KIDDING!

I remember now her talking about how much she loved Turkish food when she lived in Europe. So tonight it's the Bosphorus. I almost decided on Fountain Square but think we'll try something other than Thai this time.

    THANKS TO ALL!!!

now, what to order....stuffed grape leaves for sure. I go for lamb, gyro-type meats, and feta. She is allergic to lamb and feta.

She talked of how you form a scoop with your fingers and eat some chicken like meat dish, will I have to do that there????? (not a serious question)

Maybe you can make jokes about how Bosphorus sounds like Phosphorus...

OTOH, maybe you shouldn't listen to me

Wow....oh wow. Was that good. Enough leftovers for lunch and dinner for both of us tomorrow.

One question. I love a good thick coffee (ie Cuban coffee super thick and super sweet just leave out the sweet) But does Turkish coffee always have a muddy flavor and retain 1/2 of the cup for grounds?

The two of us ate...ate...and ate and as I said, a large supply of leftovers for $55.oo and then tip. This one stays on our list. Now....on to the next one (another day)

Oh....and after dinner she informed me that it was Algerian food she had and loved while traveling with friends (they were Algerian, go figure) So while she thought it was wonderful that I remembered the story and thought of her likes....I got it wrong. But she still loved it.

I know its too late but Abyssinia Ethopian Resturant on West 38th (near Lafeyette Square) is a hidden gem in my opinion. Ethiopian is very unique and I recommend you all try it at least once. You even get to eat with your hands!

Yes! I went there about six months ago and it is indeed a fantastic restaurant. Indy has a quite a few unique ethnic restaurants. People often unfairly write off Indy as being "Chain City USA", but there are a lot of fantastic local restaurants if you know where to look.
