Wiggins has been the second greatest NBA prospect ever. He's going to be very good. We don't know how good, but at a minimum he will be an All-Star.
I'm all about thinking Wiggins probably has a place on that list by the time 2017 actually rolls around, but look no further than Harrison Barnes if you want a reason to pump the brakes on proclaiming Wiggins a prodigy. He was "the next Kobe" and a "can't miss prospect" and had probably 75% of the hype that Wiggins has coming into college. Then he had two ho-hum seasons at UNC.

Was Lebron REALLY the most hyped? The times are a lot different now with the instant technology, but from what I understand Kareem was renowned coast to coast as a high schooler and this was the mid 60s. If he'd been a prospect during Lebron's time it'd have been INSANE.
We should qualify these statements. LeBron was the most hyped in "modern NBA history" or something of that ilk.

Yeah, plus "most hyped" is at least sort of tangible, Lebron probably really was more hyped than Kareem regardless of the era I guess. Just a lot more outlets to talk about him.

I can't speak to that because I wasn't alive during Kareem's high school years but LeBron was getting nationally-televised games when he was a sophomore in high school. Not saying he was better than Kareem, but I remember hearing hype about him as early as 2001. At the least, LeBron is the second most-hyped high schooler ever... either way, I don't see Wiggins as a lock for future All Star games.

    No.

He may eventually turn out to be the best player in the world, but calling him the 2nd best prospect ever is just plain wrong. There are more HS kids than lebron and wiggins that could have been drafted #1.
Only LeBron had more hype than Wiggins coming out of high school. Atleast since I've been alive. Oden, Durant, J.Wall, K.Brown, D. Howard have been some of the others that were very hyped up in HS. So, when a player is this hyped up it usually means they have All Star talent. The only two times this wasn't the case was with Centers. I don't think that is a coincidence. Please feel free to tell me a player that was more hyped than Wiggins the past 20 years that did not succeed. Because in my opinion only one guy was more hyped. And I think we know how that turned out. Just saying.

....and nobody argued that there was another player in the past 20 years.

Kareem and Wilt were just as highly rated. Ralph Sampson was probably the most hyped high school player of all time.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

Thanks for helping prove my point? Were Kareem and Wilt busts? Ralph Sampson wasn't a bust either until injuries. So, I appreciate the fact that you just proved my point that guys with this much hype are usually not busts.

Maybe it is because I live in Indy, more or less, but I feel like Oden was more hyped. I honestly have not seen one thing about Wiggins outside of this forum.

Same here. I thought I remembered seeing LeBron in every sports show/magazine/paper that existed back in the day, but I could be misremembering.

LeBron was EVERYWHERE in high school on ESPN and stuff, and that was well before the Twitter universe. I've heard less about Wiggins now than LeBron then by far.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

Because wiggins was in Canada until last year.

Well this article has Drummond at 3, Wiggins at 8

Paul George at 13, and Roy Hibbert at 36.

I had no idea that people were THIS high on Andre Drummond. I know he is expected to be a great Center, but I did not know people had him as a future top 3-10 players in the NBA. Pretty crazy PG is at 13 on this list. The potential he has shown compared to guys ahead of him isn't even close I don't think.

The opinions on PG vary so much. Some compare him to Gordon Hayward? I guess in the NBA people don't look at defense at all. Comparing Paul George to Gordon Hayward is one of the most disrespectful things I have seen. Hayward was the 3rd option on a team that did not make the playoffs.

PG has received a bunch of love this summer on a national level... He'll open more eyes next year...

It was just over a year ago that many on here were comparing him to the likes of Gordon Haywood or Tayshaun Prince... I'm not shocked that the whole country hasn't caught up yet...

And the only guy above PG that I vehemently disagree with is Griffin... He will most likely not age well... He's overrated as is... And I'm gonna make a prediction that Blake is going to be one of those guys that peaked in his rookie year once his story has been written... Drummond will not get that high IMO... But it could happen...

So dumb. Guys on that list who aren't even in the NBA yet.

This is one of those many times I roll my eyes at sports media.

Its a prediction though. They predict him to be great already anyways, what's the difference? I think the odds of him being in the top 10 are A LOT greater than him not being in there. So I can't really call that dumb IMO.

The reason was because Lebron could go pro out of HS, while Wiggins is forced to go to college. If Wiggins had the opportunity to play in the NBA this season, you would definitely know about him.

You must not read ESPN or any mock draft boards.

Well obviously you see him on mock drafts, but yeah I don't pay attention to those at this point.

I don't visit or watch ESPN as much as I used to, but I still do enough that I would think I would see something without specifically looking for it.
