It's not that people are upset about losing those specific players. Instead, it's just another sign that this program has no stability and that the coach has an off-putting way of doing things.
If you want to be mad at Crean for anything re: players, be mad he recruits players who don't fit into his program (Jurkin, Perea, Etherington, etc.) To me, that's his fatal flaw. Some of these guys are obvious misfits, and he gets them in the program anyway.

What really irks me is how many guys he tries to sign in the spring. I bet we'll bring in at least five freshmen again next year, giving us another woefully unbalanced roster with very few upperclassmen. I feel this is why we're experiencing this instability now and is further evidence of Crean's spastic nature.

there are alot of things that irk me but among the bigger ones is the rumor of running some 4 hr. practices. a 4 hr practice isn't going to make your team better. if anything, it will only wear your team out and increase the risk of serious injury.

As I've said in here before, this is his ultimate flaw. If he fails to understand why this doesn't work, he's never going to win anything.

Many of the great coaches in history had long practices. Both methods have proved to work. The Stevens 1hr focused practiced and the Marathon method (one Bobby Knight used). Although Knight says he regrets practices for so long late in the season,

I actually think the perfect model would be a few 3 hr practices especially early in the year, and slowly work down towards an hour.

That is pretty much what Pitino does, and I agree, it's my preference. But I'm not a coach.

I agree, the more practice the better IMO. I actually like what Pitino does in addtion to pratice. He does a lot of 1v1 sessions with players each morning. I have read he does two er morning about an hour each with a player on his team. I think that is a big part of building trust, having the head coach do the hard work with you. I think working on individual fundamental skills is the best way to see a player improve thus the team improving.

So right now, our centers are Perea and Jurkin? Can either of them become serviceable by next year? Can Devin Davis play any center?

Perea had one really, really good game this year...but I just don't see it for either him or Jurkin. I just don't think the guys see and understand the game at the level they need to in order to consistently compete every day.

I love Davis' hustle and effort. Playing him serious minutes at the 5 would be problematic, though. I don't think he's a freak enough athlete to let you get away with that.

It's JUCO/late transfer or bust, pretty much. More likely bust.

How the hell does a guy like Crean get paid over $3 million a year and keep his job at Marquette and IU for as long as he did?

IU baseball currently 15-10. While the overall record isn't what we hoped it would be, the Hoosiers are leading the Big Ten at 5-1 after sweeping the Buckeyes in Columbus last weekend. IU has a strong tournament resumť with a win over Kentucky and two wins over Louisville, along with a strength of schedule rating of 16.

So what will our starting line-up be next season for basketball?

    Im assuming something like
    Yogi
    Blackmon
    Robinson
    Williams
    Perea

with Johnson, Davis, Jurkin and maybe Hoetzel off the bench?

Good question. The 5 spot is gonna be rough. But I'm guessing...

    Yogi
    JBJ
    Williams
    Davis
    Perea

Davis at the 4 might be a bit of a reach. But I think he's the guy in the lineup that does the little things, while Yogi/JBJ/Williams are your scorers.

A challenging schedule is paying off for the IU baseball team. Now 8-1 in the Big Ten and alone in first after sweeping Iowa on the road this weekend, the Hoosiers are 18-10 overall with a strength of schedule rating of 12 and an RPI of 8.

The bats have finally come alive after a slow start. IU hit more home runs in this series (8) than seven different Big Ten teams have managed all season.

    Royce Waltman has died.
Former assistant coach at IU. Head coach at ISU. Most recently was color commentator on IU radio with Don Fischer.
Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

After going 8 innings without a hit yesterday, the IU baseball team finally got one in the bottom of the 9th before coming up with the winning run in the 10th to beat Western Kentucky 1-0.

Since starting the season 2-5, the Hoosiers have now won 20 of 26 and climbed back into the polls at #26 in the country.

For what it's worth, Mel Kiper has Cody Latimer going in the first round in his latest mock draft.

The clown has been living off of the run with Wade for over 10 years. Outside of Wade, his resume is *WEAK*.

Wait, you're telling me a guy who hangs banners for conference titles and doles out rings for Sweet 16s has a weak resume? Blasphemy!

But he's the Harbaugh's brother-in-law. I like Crean as a recruter and I tried to ignore the nay-sayers so as to believe he's the second coming, heck I even have a Crean & Crimson tshirt....but I gotta wonder if his rep of being unable to win big isn't legit. Besides, everytime I see him on TV I'm reminded of Tom Arnold.

Speaking of T-shirts, every time I stumble upon my "We're Back" shirt in my closet I just shake my head and sigh.

Is Tom Arnold available to coach? He'd probably do better because he wouldn't start out thinking he's better than he is so probably would surround himself was quality assistants that he'd listen to as well as look to improve himself.

Really, Crean just needs gone. It's IMHO obvious at this point that the ship has sailed and it's only going to be a question of how far IU lets the program drop before doing what is going to have to be done anyway and that is replace Crean. So, either do it sooner, with the program in disarray or do it later with the program in a total shambles.

Crean is a one 'clap' pony and that pony has left the barn... What Crean really has going for him is energy. And energy is not enough. It's not enough to sustain recruiting when there's no substance with the coaching. And it all goes downhill quickly from there.
