"Everything else" which I consider including practice, has question marks.
So the question is, can you find a better candidate with an offense that makes sense, with recruiting power and with all those non-gametime intangibles? If so, sure, put his name on a list. IU isn't buying out Crean any time soon, but I'm game to discuss.
I just imagine, by the time IU gets to a point where Crean could realistically be on the way out, he won't be because this young team will have matured into a championship-caliber one.
I'm almost the opposite. I hate his in-game adjustments, his nonsensical substitution patterns, his half court offense (you aren't going to get out and run on everybody, all the time, after all), his use of timeouts, and his adjustments in general (assuming he makes any). Off the court, I don't know, the players seem to work hard, they certainly graduate, stay out of trouble, etc. His recruiting is a bit maddening with his tendency to throw out 100 scholarship offers a year, accepting commitments from freshmen/sophomores, and his love affair with wings who do more or less the same thing. We've already been over his insane practices.
He isn't going anywhere now. We all know that. He would have the miss the NCAAs this year (looking like a strong bet, but they still have an outside chance) and lose Vonleh; they will have nothing in the way of post players next season. Rumblings are afoot that IU is going to lose two more players to transfer, with Hanner Perea possibly being one of them. Just like this year's team had a major weakness as far as having no shooters outside of Yogi, next year's team is going to get pounded inside and on the glass unless Crean can pull a recruiting miracle. So next year it's possible we miss the NCAAs again. After that, I would think his seat would be pretty warm heading into the 2015-2016 season.
OK, I'm finally on the bandwagon. Tom Crean needs to go. His situational lineups are embarrassing, and his team is just plain dumb. He coached them out of a win today.
Hahaha, let this be the final nail in the coffin for Tom Crean.
Can we fire Crean already.
**** this team. No ****ing heart. Terrible ****ing coach. I'm done.
What an absolute joke.
Counting down the days untill DJ Augustin's contract expires.
That's the nail in the coffin. No tournament for us.
"Derek Fisher will prove to be a much better NBA head coach than Steve Kerr."
"The Houston Texans will forever regret it if they do not take Johnny Manziel with the No. 1 overall pick. He will haunt them."
"You bet I'd take Tebow late in games over ARodg."
"Manti Te'o: the next Ray Lewis."
Oh well Mr Crean's seat just got a hell of a lot warmer.
Counting down the days untill DJ Augustin's contract expires.
This reminds me of the Mike Davis years when I would watch IU and take solace in every loss by telling myself, "We are now that much closer to firing this imbecile." Sadly, Crean's seat is room temperature.
Seeing 2-3 zone every game was bad enough…now we're going to see a lot more press as well.
Saturday is going to be a nightmare. Can Crean just stay home?
missed most of the game but the last minute. this team is in a fight to make the nit. simply no shot at ncaa this year. the only way that happens is if every other team gets food poisoning in the big10 tourney and even then, it is an outside shot at best.
if vonleh declares- expect to see something along a repeat of this year for next season as we will have no interior scoring or defense.
Peegs board is going absolutely berzerk. Crean may have lost some of his disciples tonight...
he ALMOST coached them out of the Wisconsin win too. i remember he subbed out vonleh near the end and he wasn't in foul trouble or anything- just a crean-type substitution and put in the substantially smaller etherington and that probably just about made bo ryan's day as he saw a stupid substitution and promptly attacked and scored on it. it was nice to see the crowd wasn't too pleased about it and they booed crean for it. and i heard boos again tonight at the end.
i am beginning to believe that the crowd is getting a bit tired of tom.
I hope the crowd is growing tired of it. Crean can thank DWade for his hiring. Without one of the NBA's greatest players stopping at Marquette on his way to the NBA I wonder if he could've even sustained his job at Marquette? He's really just not very good. Especially for a top rung program. Or one trying to get back to the top rung.
Like I said, we should've seen this coming. The signs were there early on but the decimated roster gave him an excuse. And the recruiting successes that started flowing in moved the needle on the record. But in hindsight I'm not sure any of Crean's IU will ever be accused of being over-achievers. And much of that is on coaching. Ill prepared for games, a bad offense, unable to adjust, and with maddening substitutions further creating problems.
Crean has peaked. Now the flaws are there for all to see. It's not going to get better. It's only going to make recruiting harder and create questions among team members from here on out. When it's over it's over. IU risks a quick fall and major setback if Crean continues too long. And 'too long' isn't going to be very long.... IMHO
Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.
"A player who makes a team great is more valuable than a great player. Losing yourself in the group, for the good of the group, that’s teamwork."
Noah Vonleh had 3 FG attempts. That alone is a fireable offense.
"I had to take her down like Chris Brown."
Losing at home to Penn State and Northwestern in the same year ....just sigh. I thought we were past this type of ****.
Also, some of Crean's quotes from last night after the game are so hilariously obtuse and ironic that I almost have to wonder if he did it intentionally.
Does anyone else find themselves watching our half court offense and feel like it is fundamentally the same **** that Mike Davis used here? We get under the 3 point line pretty much never. It is embarrassing.
Sampson may have been a lying cheat, but at least I could watch his team play basketball without wanting to cut my eyes out. Why can't we ever find a balance?
Also, I'm tired of the we are young excuses. This team has 2 top 20 5 star recruits at arguably the two most important positions in college basketball (point guard and post play), the rest of the roster is stacked with very high potential 4 stars. Teams have and do win with significantly less at a young age and on a regular basis.
Unfortunantly Crean will be stuck at IU for a long time. Buyout too expensive at this point.
If you really want to laugh, read his twitter account. After the professor from Gilligan's Island and Rueben from the partridge family died, he said they made those shows go. LOL. How did we end up with such a genius?
