If they win the B1G Tournament.

    That's the only way.
We could slip the other 11 teams sedatives and still not win the tourney

Those are home games. The road slate has already started, and as mentioned in here, has not gone swimmingly yet.

I've been hearing rumors that Vonleh is going to return next year, which seems like madness, but would be absolutely huge for you guys.

I've heard about a million different things there. Honestly, I've stopped following all the insider stuff that closely, mainly because I can't stand 90% of my fellow IU fans. Is your info well sourced?

I think if IU wins out the regular season and then takes at least one game in the tourney they'd be firmly on the bubble. That would give them a .500 conference record and 20 overall wins.

Anything less than that and there's no chance, IMO.

Usually yes. There's still a long way to go though, if he really turns it on down the stretch (or even if he doesn't, and just comes to his senses) things can definitely change.

I mean this is what he has said from the beginning. I just never believed him, but yes would obviously be a huge coup and put a ton of pressure on the team to put up another top 5 type season.

I saw him somewhere projected as the #6 pick in the draft. That would be really difficult to say NO to.

If Vonleh does return, I still think there are a ton of question marks around IU. Not really going out on a limb there, but still...

    1. James Blackmon Jr & Robert Johnson are still freshmen. Even Jordan Hulls was far from automatic from 3 as a freshman. I just don't trust freshman shooters. It takes a while to find your comfort level at the collegiate level. Few kids are naturally just "above" that introductory period, I find.

    2. You can count on Vonleh and Ferrell being impact players. But have Robinson, Davis, Williams et al shown that they can be trusted to make a leap into reliable starter status? To make an impact beyond being reliable?

    3. Even with Vonleh, size will be a concern. Unless Perea magically evolves overnight, it will be a rough year for IU in the paint. I guess, at least, Vonleh mitigates some of that because he boards with the best of 'em.

Noah Vonleh would have to be certifiably insane to return next season.

And Tom Crean would have to be one hell of a used car salesman.

It is not so much the shot. The line is only a few inches back from HS. It is the speed of the game. I would imagine Blackmon will be getting different shots than he is use to as well. I think Blackmon will be a quicker adjustment than Hulls. Hulls had to learn where to get his shots in college due to his size and speed combo. Blackmon should be able to get off clean looks much easier early in his career.

Villanova has shown you can win with undersized basketball players. I wouldn't be to concerned with the paint if Vonleh comes back. 4 out 1 in.

Only IU could score 49 points in the first half and still be losing at the break. Even when this team is scoring they're still hard to watch.

Don't know how this game will end, but this is the most positive game I've seen IU play in some time. They really seem to be understanding defense now, and locking in there. Offense really just depends on the other team's presence in the paint, but it's working tonight.

20 minutes to play the last 1:22.

As tough as this season has been, had we not **** the bed against PSU at home we'd still be in line for a tourney bid. 7-8 in the Big Ten and 17-11 overall looks worlds different than 16-12 and 6-9. Hard to believe a 2 minute stretch could be so costly, but it was.

Well that was a solid win..man I wish sheehey played even half that good for the whole season. This season really sucks...all I can think about is the games vs PSU and NW. We win those and easily are in the tournament. Hopefully we can finish the season strong and have a great big ten tourney and maybe we have a chance.

Iowa is in free fall mode. Good win for us though. We needed it.

    What I like about IU...

    1. A win like this halts freefall mode.

    2. These guys are figuring out team defense. They're still a bit hands-y, but I say do that until the refs call it. And then wise up.

    3. I really like Devin Davis. With some players, the future is so cloudy. With Davis, it's clear as day. It's easy to see the 4-year path he'll take to being a really effective, consistent rock by the time he's a junior or senior. Really just seems like a kid built to play B1G hoops. He's had some rough patches this year, and I don't see him as having pro potential or anything like that, but I love the fact that you can so clearly see the skillset he'll be able to build on from here.

    4. I like that Stan Robinson's game works. He'll need to develop a shot somewhere on the court to keep it credible, but in that way -- and I hate these comparisons, because they're unfair -- he reminds me a bit of Oladipo. 'Dipo was great at exciting the crowd and getting to the rim his freshman year, and some "where did that come from?" defensive moments, but that was about it. He was developed into a NBA player. Now, I'm not saying Robinson has the same ceiling, but at least you know it's possible for a kid with that skillset to develop an outside shot, keep evolving his defensive play.

    5. I like that IU won a game where Yogi & Vonleh were invisible. There was still the element of hero ball with Sheehey, but it was a great learning experience anyway.

Some things that still bother me...

    1. Austin Etherington's game. He's a shooter who passes up shots. He's better around the rim than he gets credit for, but he's a defensive liability (slow lateral movement) and he's just a guy out there on offense.

    2. This team still can't get Vonleh shots. I don't know if Vonleh stays or goes, but if he stays, he'd better make it clear to Crean that the offense should run through him much more in 2015, and if he goes, he'll perhaps be one of the most underutilized lottery picks in recent memory.

    3. I'll admit, I appreciate everything Sheehey has done for this program. His contributions have been huge. He's made a lot of wins during the good times really, really fun with his attitude. But I see a game like this, see what he's capable of when he takes smart shots (cough midrange jumpers cough) and plays aggressively...and I'm a little disappointed he wasn't more engaged throughout the season, Yeah, maybe that's a bit unfair, and I hate to pick on college kids. But it does bother me sensing anyone has held back, and you get that sense with Sheehey.

    4. Still don't like Crean's odd substitution patterns. In a hotly-contested B1G game like this, I really shouldn't see Marlin on the court. This isn't a group that forces Crean to play Daniel Moore level of talent. He just subs because he can.

    And my complete wildcard...

    1. Jeremy Hollowell. Honestly, I wish this kid all the best, but I'd pretty much written him off in terms of being a reliable contributor to the IU program. Just seemed like there was always something he didn't "get". Then, last night, he plays 75% of a beautiful basketball game. Gorgeous defense, great hustle to the ball, really smart offense with controlled bursts of aggression. And then, toward the end of the game, he starts trying to cross over defenders off the dribble and stepping back into off-balance long twos—which is the sort of thing that probably got him benched in the first place. Kid is fully capable of being a tremendously useful wing, but I have no idea how he'll turn out.

Hoosier baseball looks like they may be getting back on track. They won both games of their doubleheader today, beating Toledo 8-3 and #9 Louisville 6-2 (at Louisville).
