At least things are going well for Hoosiers in the NBA...

Oh. Well, Oladipo looks pretty good still.

I don't blame Zeller at all for coming out early and maximizing that payday. It's the right decision every time without the benefit of retrospect. But damn, did that kid need another year or two of college ball to be pro-ready. And probably with someone besides Crean...

Any early thoughts on what to expect from IU football this year? I have to think there is no way in hell the defense can be any worse, but I thought that heading into 2013 and voila! At least Mallory is gone.

I expect a dynamic offense again. Just wonder how many PPG they'll have to score to win. I'll miss watching Cody Latimer play, but if there is one positive consistency for the IU football program, it's WR play. They're always deep and always have guys who can step up.

I think the defense will improve from being around the 120th best (i.e., one of the worst) defenses in college football to being somewhere in the 70s-80s range. The switch to the 3-4 will be an adjustment, but we have more talent on that side of the ball and are more experienced. Oh yeah, the Mallory poltergeist has departed.

I think the offense will be, well, like it has been, maybe even better. Tevin Coleman is a legit threat as a running back and Sudfeld/Roberson will only get better now with two years of experience under both of them. I hope they stay healthy so we can redshirt this QB we signed from California (Alexander Diamont). The receiving corps won't be as strong, but I'm not overly concerned about that.

The schedule is tougher, but that is to be expected after we lined everything up for a bowl appearance last year only to watch Mallory let opposing offenses set school records on us each week.

vs Indiana State (Should be a fairly easy win)
at Bowling Green (We handled them last year, but they were still a damn solid football team. Lost their HC to Wake though. I'll call it a win.)
    at Missouri (Loss)
vs Maryland (Welcome to the Big Ten Maryland!! Here's the conference's worst program in history so you guys can feel good about yourselves! 50/50)
vs North Texas (Should be a win)
at Iowa (Most likely a loss, but a winnable game. Iowa never really scares me all that much.)
vs Michigan State (Almost certainly a loss)
at Michigan (Probably a loss, but I think it's a winnable game.)
vs Penn State (50/50. Beat them last year, but I think James Franklin>Bill O'Brien; at least in the college game.)
at Rutgers (50/50. Leaning towards a loss.)
    at Ohio State (*** pounding.)
vs Purdue (Probably a win, unless they show serious, serious signs of growth in Year 2 of the Hazell regime)

So I think we will be right in bowl contention this season. I could see anywhere from 4-8 wins, although I expect us to fall right in the middle of that at 6-6.

Was a really good listen. Said he probably wouldn't have taken the job if he knew how bad the academics were before he got here. Some great wisdom in there.

Really am excited to see what Tevin Coleman can do this year. Most IU RBs I've seen have either been "gimmicky" (Marcus Thigpen) or moreso a product of the overall offense than an individual talent (Stephen Houston). Coleman is, IMO, the rare IU RB who would be terrific no matter which offense he was in. Love the kid's vision and burst. Not so much straight-line 40 speed as an ability to shift gears quickly and hit his top-end speed by the time he hits second level. Give him a crease, and it's over with. Still needs to develop as a receiver, though not bad there, but I can absolutely see Coleman in the NFL. And I don't really say that about IU RBs.

IU baseball now 2-5 after getting dominated again today. It took them 30 games to reach 5 losses last season.

looks like they won't be repeating the success of last season this time around. unfortunately, iu athletics has been crap all over this year. football, soccer, basketball and now baseball isn't looking too encouraging either.

The better team, fueled by its home crowd, asserted itself at halftime and controlled the rest of the game.

If IU wins the next 3 home games against Iowa, OSU, and Neb, can they make the tourney?
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Maybe. But I just don't see it happening. This team is so wildly inconsistent.

Considering Wis. averages 73pts per game this year, I'd say pretty easily. They've been held under 50 once this season, and that was against the best defensive team in the nation.
