No I understand being homesick. But you gotta suck it up. To quit because of being homesick = soft. What a waste of a great opportunity. He had the potential to get so much playing time in the next few years and really show case his talents at one of the best programs in basketball.
I guess Larry Bird was soft then.....

That notion is total BS IMO. He isn't quitting basketball he is moving closer to home and playing. Being homesick in no way makes the kid soft. He isnt wasting a huge opportunity he isn't happy.

EDIT: MARIO beat me to it!

Rats leaving a sinking ship is what comes to mind.

I don't want IU to lose but they need to get rid of Crean. I want a real coach that can speak coherently and not just in drawn out platitudes.

Man, this is the biggest indictment of Crean yet. I remember you steadfastly and passionately defending him against any barb tossed his way in the past.

I was questioning my memory thinking I must be thinking of the wrong poster. What turned you hoosierguy?

No kidding. I went and looked through last year's IU thread and when somebody was critical of Crean, hoosierguy acted like they had killed his mom or something.

Teenager being homesick when he goes away to college in another state=soft? I mean i guess sort of but its not exactly that uncommon.
    Why commit to IU then?

You generally don't know you are homesick until you are, you know, away from home. Maybe he didn't fit in with his teammates like he thought, maybe he missed his family and friends more than he thought. I don't know, I am from Evansville and was homesick the first semester or so that I went to IU and I knew a ton of people there and was only two hours away from home. But perhaps I'm soft

I'm not saying being homesick while at college out of state is soft. That's to be expected. I'm saying its soft to leave in the middle of the damn season because of homesickness. I understand that sometimes players don't fit in or don't like the school as much as they thought they would and etc...but you can at least wait till the year is over to transfer.

Yeah, I can relate to feeling homesick while in college, but leaving your teammates 24 hours before the Big Ten opener is a dick move, IMO. I never had any thoughts of quitting or transferring when I was in school, but I can almost guarantee my parents would have made me wait until spring before doing anything. Heck, my roommate freshman year wanted out by October, and his parents made him suck it up and stay there until May.

I can't remember where, but I know I read somewhere that Bird was hazed pretty badly as a freshman and the guys who did it went too far. It's one thing to be homesick when you're on your own for the first time, but getting picked on probably made it a lot worse.

I don't know the whole story behind the bird transfer as that was before my time. But if he transferred solely because of homesickness in the middle of the season, then yeah that's soft. I'm not saying his whole career was soft, because obviously he accomplished a lot. Maybe him transferring was the right move, but I still think abandoning your teammates in the middle of the season because your home sick is a ******** move. And very very soft.

I also question Creans ability as a coach...he had to know this was going on...he should have done everything in his power to try to fix the situation...I think us not having many upperclassmen hurts too.,.because they coulda took Fischer under their wings.

And we don't know the whole story. For all we know theirs a family crisis. Or something similar is happening to Fischer.

Yeah, you can thank Kent Benson for Bird not being a Hoosier. So the story goes anyway.

Just hope he Fischer doesn't land on another B1G team (Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, etc). Doesn't a guy at least have a few friends on the team?

This is like the complete opposite feeling I have watching the Pacers: As I post this, IU is up 64-63 and I have absolutely no confidence that they will win this game.

Crean is putting on an absolute clinic on how not to coach. Had two timeouts and the final possession at the end of regulation--didn't call a timeout to draw up a play. Left Vonleh out with <3 minutes left in regulation. Took Vonleh out in overtime. I'm done with him. **** you Crean.

I really like Crean, but I have to agree. I normally don't like letting the defense get set, but Evan Gordon with the ball in his hands would be an autmatic TO for me. He is a very poor decision maker and has bad shot selection always has. But Evan got a good look much to my surprise.

I have no idea why Noah is not in the game. Noah has been a force today plays so much harder than the other Indiana bigs.

The officials called a jump ball when they realized Illinois had the possession arrow.

I have no clue how IU managed to stay this close with all the turnovers.

From the end of the second half until nearly the end of overtime, Indiana went 10 MINUTES OF GAME TIME without scoring a field goal. The offense is back to where it was pre-Zeller. Swing the ball around the three point line until the shot clock forces you to throw up a crappy shot.

Things just seem to being getting worse and worse with Crean. He reminds me a bit of my high school coach, who I deem to be the worst coach ever, which is sad cause I have had some terrible coaches. The way he handled the old regimes players when he took over rubbed me the wrong way. He really seemed to be looking for any reason possible to get rid of them instead of trying to work with them, and correct any behavioral/academic issues. Last years team had too much talent to not get to the final four, not getting to the Elite Eight was an utter failure. While I haven't paid as much attention to IU basketball since he took over as I did before (partially because I couldn't watch the games at college) when I have watched them, I have been thoroughly unimpressed with his coaching and the style of ball they play.

Crean's offensive philosophy = imitate BAD NBA offense (the kind no winning team ever plays).
