Ryan Braun of the Brewers has been suspended 50 games for violating MLB's drug policy. Virtually all reports say that A-Rod is next:
I remember when Selig was on Mike and Mike last week before the all star game. He scoffed at the notion that there was a "black cloud" hanging over baseball. Let's see: The 2011 NL MVP, who has been one of the best players in the game for the last six years, was just suspended for the remainder of the season. Furthermore, A-Rod, a three time MVP who is fifth on the all time home run list, and who led the league's premier franchise to a championship just four years ago, is reportedly on the verge of having the hammer thrown down on him.
Yeah, no black cloud at all....
That's not meant to say that there aren't some great things happening in this game, such as all of the dynamic young players, but I'd say there is still a pretty dark shadow hanging over the league right now.
