I can't imagine the studio will allow this to be a "face vs. heel" type of thing, to steal a WWE term. If they don't pair up together to fight some villain, and it does end up pitting them against one another, I would have to assume it will be a mix of a Man of Steel sequel and a Batman reboot. I haven't seen MoS, but I would guess a plausible plot would involve something like Batman being wary of Superman's more or less invincible powers, take it as a threat to mankind even if he hasn't shown himself to be malicious, using his massive financial resources/detective skills to find out about kryptonite/obtain some, then entrap Superman somehow where the two have the billion dollar fight before they ultimately end up coming to some sort of uneasy understanding.

Superman is a moron read the comics
...I'm pretty sure he isn't mentally incompetent in the comics, unless he's deliberately written that way to make another superhero/villain look better by comparison.

If the only way to make superman appear beatable is stupidity+kryptonite, then this will be a really, really dumb fight.

I suppose you could go the super advanced Bat Suit root too, but I just honestly don't think these guys really mix that well in any story.

Being a Giant need I can tell you supermans greatest weakness is his overconfidence.

I don't either. I have never been a fan of Superman. Nothing about his story or anything about his ethos interests me, especially pitting him on Earth where he is quite literally invincible unless some kryptonite can be had from another planet or wherever the **** comes from.

Ben Affleck has been cast as the new Batman. Enjoy discussing that casting choice, everybody.

Absolutely terrible, and that's coming from someone who owns Daredevil on DVD.

Ben Affleck as director and Casey Affleck as Batman would have been much better.

Word is Affleck is also in line for multiple sequels and as the director for standalone Batman movies! Wow!

FWIW I am a huge fan of this casting.

I'm not going to bash this until I see him acting. I loved Argo and I think this will likely turn out better than people believe right now.

Maybe they'll cast Matt Damon as Robin...
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

I mean, to be fair, most people thought it was ridiculous when they cast Heath Ledger as the Joker back in the day. Not saying it's gonna turn out that well, but you never know.

I don't think that its Affleck as Batman that is causing the uproar, but more that we go from Christian Bale as Batman to Ben Affleck as Batman. They seem radically different.

I've got a bad feeling about this....

Seriously though, not too thrilled, but Affleck has come a long way since Daredevil. He can certainly bring that growth, insight, etc to Batman. I do recall hating the Ledger as the Joker as well, and he was damn good.

My only real beef then is that I figured they'd cast an up and coming actor though...which I'd have preferred. Affleck is still a big name, so he comes with a lot of baggage and quite a bit of good. To me, it might be a bit distracting, and so that's my only real beef with Affleck playing Batman.

Affleck can bring some of that Shannon Hamilton Mallrats darkness to Batman.

Plus they can re-deploy Operation Dark Knight...

I mean I know it's an easy joke to make, but I have no problems with it. I assume these people that do the casting are better at their jobs than I am at casting so I'll trust they have a plan.

Trusting them resulted with George Clooney as Batman, Arnold as Mr Freeze, and Uma as Poison Ivy. The recent trilogy had the task of pulling the franchise out of the mud, and it looks like they're jumping right back in.

Again, my only worry is all the baggage that comes with Affleck, which might be too distracting. It's not like you need star power for the role of Batman.

I think he's gotten much better over the years. I'm going to reserve judgment, because there have been plenty of casting choices that have ended up working great.

    Oh, and...
...the human torch is now captain america...
    ...daredevil is now batman...
    ...deadpool became green lantern...

Nolan is executive producing. Goyer is writing. I am 100% positive the casting directors are different for these movies than those you just mentioned. The only thing they have in common is Batman. That's it. I suspect the campy **** will be non-existent and it will be much more along the Dark Knight trilogy lines. Not to mention, it's more of a Man of Steel sequel than anything.

You guys can rush to judgement and make assumptions about what it's going to be like because of one casting decision, but I'll wait until we get actual details about the plot before I start bringing Joel Schumaker's name into the mix.

I don't think looking at Affleck's body of work and then envisioning him as a crappy Batman beause of it, is really rushing to judgement. The guy doesn't exude some of the characteristics that is needed for Batman IMHO. He definitely isn't any phsyical intimidating force.
