Surprising that no one has rattled off any of the great 80's hits by U2, one of the biggest bands of the 80's. One of my fav bands of all time.
Sunday Bloody Sunday
With or without you
Pride (In the name of love)

My gosh what an amazing decade from that band.
You can't get champagne from a garden hose.
This is a fun thread I wish we could do one of these for the 90's too. I probably just missed the boat on anything from the 80's I was only 5 years old in 89 after all but I could probably go back and look through some lists of songs I know now that were from the 80's but as far as saying "I really liked it when I turned the radio on and hear...." not so much. I'm gonna do my own but from the 90's just to contribute somewhat.
10. Barenaked Ladies - "One Week"
9. Natalie Imbruglia - "Torn"
8. TLC- "Waterfalls"
7. R.E.M - "Losing My Religion"
6. Blues Traveler - "Run around"
5. Bone Thugs N Harmony - "Crossroads"
4. Garth Brooks - "Friends In Low Places"
3. Pearl Jam - "Jeremy"
2. Michael Jackson - "Black or White"
1. Nirvana - "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
I would probably create my own separate list for songs that I like but as far as songs from the 90's goes those really are the ones that I think sticks out. Sorry if this is "hijacking" the thread but I felt like adding to what was already a fun thread.
I'm not sure if these are my favorites so much as songs I enjoy that I hadn't yet seen listed. Also tried to keep it to one song per artist (except for Tears for Fears, where I had to make up for LG33 being a traveling wilbury and leaving Roland & Curt out).
Tears For Fears "Start of the Breakdown", "Head Over Heels"
The Church "Under the Milky Way"
The Smiths "This Charming Man"
Talking Heads "Once in a Lifetime"
Sonic Youth "Teen Age Riot"
World Party "Ship of Fools"
Joy Division "Love Will Tear Us Apart"
Depeche Mode "Never Let Me Down Again"
The Bangles "Hazy Shade of Winter"
Naked Eyes "Always Something There to Remind Me"
Eric B & Rakim "Paid in Full"
Blondie "Call Me"
David Bowie "Ashes to Ashes"
Oleta Adams "Rhythm of Life"
The Cure "Just Like Heaven"
Melle Mel "White Lines"
The Clash "Train in Vain"
Til Tuesday "Voices Carry" (or, as my gf believed for many years, "This is scary")
Echo & the Bunnymen "Killing the Moon"
INXS "Don't Change"
A lot of Talking Heads, Dinosaur Jr and Sonic Youth stuff would take up my top ten. But Beastie Boy's "High Plains Drifter" is probably my favorite song from the 80s.
I actually wanted to start a thread a few weeks about about great songs that were ruined by horrible music video's. The 80's had some really good music video's but my God were there some that just out of this world bad.
When I think of music videos from the 80's the first one that pops into my head is You Might Think by The Cars. Probably because it won video of the year one year. Also, Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel. I think it won the same award.
Yea, you're going with the good ones.
I'm talking about songs that were decent by themselves but were just butchered by atrocious music videos.
But you know what, I'm not going to derail your thread with that. I'll just go start another one and put some more great songs from the 80's here for you.
