Default Colts 20th most valuable sports franchise in world

Forbes has ranked the Colts as the 20th most valuable sports franchise in the world at $1.154 billion.

The Colts play in one of NFL's smallest markets, but are among the most valuable teams thanks to a sweetheart stadium deal, passionate fans and regular playoff appearances. The Colts made a smooth transition at QB last season from four-time MVP Peyton Manning to No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Luck.

By my count, they are the twelfth most valuable NFL team. That's pretty impressive when you consider that the teams ahead of them are the big market monsters such as the Cowboys, Patriots, Giants, Jets, Niners, etc. The Colts have without question turned into one of the premium franchises in the NFL. They are such a well run organization from top to bottom and are masters at marketing their business. Peyton deserves a lot of the credit for it, but his last snap for the Colts was in 2010. The Colts are still sitting pretty and the people who run the organization deserve some major credit, especially the owner whose intelligence and saviness is often underestimated.

What a perfect storm that the Colts were way down for just one year and that was enough to get a successor to Peyton Manning that will probably ensure the stadium is packed for another decade as least. Peyton came out of it well to boot. Still can't believe how that worked out. Who is to say if the Colts had a string of losing seasons that the fans might get a little fickle. Hopefully we don't have to worry about that now.

I think that really speaks more to how successful the NFL is than the Colts individually. After the top 12 it is just NFL team after NFL team with Ferrari and the Knicks to break it up until you get to 30.

Yes, but the Colts are still 12th out of 32 NFL teams. That's pretty impressive for a team that plays in a tiny market. They are more valuable than teams such as the Steelers and Broncos.

Am I the only one that thinks it's kind of dumb to put Ferrari on the list? Not because F1 isn't a sport, just because they're not really a sports franchise IMO. They are a company competing in a sport. It's not like Ferrari would sell the F1 team.
