Huge key for Detroit: Keeping Andre Drummond on the court.

Guys, come on. Pistons are a playoff team next year. 38-44, sacrificial lamb to the Heat in Round 1! But hey! They're back!
    They probably are.

I'm ok with this move. They were too talented to wait another year, they'd miss on all the top prospects in the 2014 draft anyway. I don't think that Smith at 14 mil was the best signing possible, but whatever, not terrible either.

I think they should find a 3pt shooting 3 next. Bring back Delfino? Is there anyone better still available?

They could start Smith at SF but give him most of his minutes at PF/C, just like Atlanta. Keep two of Smith, Monroe, Drummond on the floor at all times, surround them with 3 shooters.

The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

Also didn't realize this about Josh Smith: He only shot 51% (!) from the free throw line last season. His averages from the line are all over the map over the course of his career. That was a career low.

I rather pay Josh Smith at 27 years of age 14mil a year than pay Iguadola at 29 12mil a year, JS is a better player too, good deal for Detroit.

I understand the rationale behind it, and really they had to get better: Their 2014 first rounder is being sent to the Bobcats and is unprotected. I'm sure they want that pick to be as low as possible.

I was being a smartass with that post about them making the playoffs, but with the rest of the East throwing their hats into the Andrew Wiggins sweepstakes, they probably will sneak in as the 8th seed.

That wasn't an issue for him getting minutes last season. Lawrence frank was, and then a broken tailbone. Dont see either of those repeating themselves.

Our pick to Charlotte is top-8 protected next summer, unprotected in 2015.

It just sounds like they need additional shooters outside of Stuckey so that they r not so reliant on Josh Smith as the only guy that can score outside of the paint.

Josh Smith can score outside of the paint?

That's 25.9% outside of close range.

As someone who doesn't like the Pistons I was in favor of this signing, and it has turned out better than I could imagine. Smith is one of the worst offensive players in the league and this signing was such a massive mistake that it will hurt the Pistons for a long while. It's wonderful.

Why does Josh Smith shoot so many 3s? Because there ain't no 4s!!!

Seriously, I haven't seen a player as delusional as JSmoove since Antoine Walker retired/was run outta the league. Just like 'Toine, I started off as a fan of JSmoove but for whatever reason, he has devolved as an offensive player. He's the type of player that unless the shotclock is at 2, he shouldn't be shooting any 3s but no one has been able to convince him of that. He's shooting a higher percentage of 3-pointers this year than ever. He's such a disappointing player.

Josh Smith has been a special viscosity of **** from range, shooting 27 percent on threes while taking 4.6—FOUR POINT SIX—of them per game. This is even more astonishing when you realize that Smith, a wonderful interior player, has actually decreased his overall field goal attempts from the past few years—his attempts per minute are the lowest in five years—while cranking up the threes. Keep in mind that in his single best season, 2009-10, he attempted just seven of them all year. That was never going to last—Smith's problem isn't conceptual so much as his own inclinations and his sheer enjoyment of taking that shot—but makes it all the more baffling that a team would recruit Smith specifically to implement the single most useless and destructive aspect of his game.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

.76 PPP, 305th in the league. He scores on 36.5% of his possessions, turns it over 15.3% of the time. His shooting percentage from the outside is horrendous. He can get offensive boards but it's not enough to make up for his turnovers and poor shooting. He's got a negative offensive win shares. The best way to defend Josh Smith is to not guard him and to try to see if he shoots.

Joe Dumars was on bath salts this off-season. That's the only way someone could think Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings were the right pieces to add to a team that desperately needed outside shooting.

Yup this signing has pretty much guaranteed the Pistons will be terrible for the next 4 years.

No one who plays as much as he does shoots as badly as he does.

IMHO, this is just payback for Detroit's role in the brawl. They made it to the Finals that year but lost in 7 games to the Spurs. It's been all down hill ever since.

He is a really nice player, but he just seems unmotivated. I think Jennings hasn't looked bad, he has been able to dish quite well.
