Default Question for NBA Contract Gurus

Does this mean we will have Edwards for the rest of the season come Monday?

...Or is he already under a guaranteed contract?

No, you can still cut him, but you'll still have to PAY him.

So Jan 10th he becomes a full season financial obligation. I realized he could be cut with pay... just curious if there was a loophole the Pacers could be using.

God only knows why he's still here. Anybody wanna bet on whether he'll be here Monday night?

I say he will be because it makes no sense whatsoever.... and that is the only way I've been able to predict what's happening with Edwards (pick the most unlikely scenario in regards to roster movements).

    Edwards appears safe

Free agent center John Edwards' contract is guaranteed for the rest of the season, an indication the Pacers plan to keep him.

The contracts of all NBA players still on a roster Jan. 10 must be honored for the remainder of the season, and players have to be waived by Jan. 7 if they are to be released by then.

Edwards still can be released, but the Pacers would have to pay his salary of $385,277.

He's played in just 16 games, scoring 20 points, but still has made a positive impression.

"He's shown a great work ethic and shown considerable improvement," Carlisle said. "Seven-foot-2 guys aren't growing on trees out there. You're looking for quality people who have a chance to develop. We like him."

    This should answer your question.

Yeah, little things, like defensive communiciation. ForEx, he yells "Man!" as his man zips past him, on the way to a layup. If he'd at least yell, "Man!" as soon as his guy caught the ball, then JO might have enough time to get in position to challenge the shot.

Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you
