So apparently Landry doesn't care that much about whether Moms and Grandma get to watch him if he so close to signing with the Clippers. Of course its the Chris Paul effect. But damn, be a good son dude...

Savvy vet is Copeland. The guy writes for ESPNNY and is referencing Copeland in that tweet.

How would you know that? Not everything gets leaked. I'm sure he has offers from multiple teams, it's better for ur business to not be out in the open. I bet we've talked to lots of players/teams that we don't know about.

If you look at all his quotes, it's clear he wants to move east and play for a contender. But he also wants a long term deal (security). He would like his mother and grandmother to watch the games. It's obvious the Pacers could use a quality PF to replace Tyler and Copeland isn't the answer there. I am sure we are pushing hard for Landry. Just don't know where things stand.
Did you ever consider the Pacers might not want to give a long term deal to someone? Reason, they want at least a chance of re-signing George, Lance, and Granger next year. That's the way it looks to me right now. However we will have to wait and see.

Source: Cavs now in play for Copeland with a potential multiyear deal. Also Pacers might be working a trade to create space for savvy vet.

tweet makes it sound like we are trying to make a trade to sign someone valuable in FA
It's clear that Zwerling is referring to Copeland with his 'savvy vet' comment. It's a continuation of the topic in the first sentence, not a separate, unrelated thought. All of his tweets are about the Knicks, so he wouldn't be mentioning what the Pacers are doing if it didn't have to do with Copeland.

I am wondering about his comment about the Pacers making moves to "clear cap space".

Either Zwerling knows NOTHING about the Pacers cap situation ( cuz they can easily make a $3 mil offer to Copeland ) and is simply assuming that they need CapSpace to make an offer for him.

    or

Zwerling isn't referring to Copeland at all and the Pacers are trying to clear Capspace to look into going after a different Player.

But I think that the easier answer is the likely scenario. I assume that he's simply making assumptions and put the Robin Lopez rumor together with the Pacers going after Copeland.

He doesn't specifically say "cap space" - I take it to mean reducing payroll to sweeten their offer to Copeland, since he is receiving more interest than they anticipated. It could also mean clearing a roster spot, but either way all signs point directly to Green.

I hope not...I guess he'd be made a "fair Market" offer....but I don't want to pay that much for Copeland. I'd rather spend more $$$ on a Player like Landry.

Yup, not to mention the infamous "internal budget". Maybe we're already over for the year. I remember Bird talking about a target payroll of $60-65m before he left.

Looks like the Vasquez and Lopez dream might be ending soon.

    July 4, 2013
Kings will not match offer to keep Tyreke Evans

The Kings will not match the four-year, $44 million offer sheet that Tyreke Evans has agreed to sign with the New Orleans Pelicans. According to sources close to the situation, the new Kings management group instead is hoping to close Thursday on a sign-and-trade agreement involving Pelicans point guard Greivis Vasquez and backup center Robin Lopez.

No deals can be finalized until July 10.

Because Evans, the 2009-10 Rookie of the Year, is a restricted free agent, the Kings have the right to match any offer he receives in the open market. However, team officials reportedly believe the offer is excessive and would damage the team's long-term salary cap flexibility. They pulled their four-year, $52 million offer to free agent Andre Iguodala Tuesday when the Denver Nuggets swingman refused to make a firm commitment.

Evans' future with the Kings became less certain when the club selected Kansas shooting guard Ben McLemore last Thursday in the NBA Draft. Evans, who was shifted from point guard to small forward, and most recently, shooting guard, averaged 15.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists last season.

That actually looks like a nice trade for the Kings.

Vasquez would be a nice fit for the Kings.

However, I think Robin Lopez is actually a bit more realistic now. Pelicans-Pacers trade wouldn't work because the Pacers have no cap space or exceptions. But for example Mahinmi+pick for Lopez to the Kings? Possibly.

I think there's still a minimum salary you have to hit, but could be wrong.
Imawhat is saying that if a team does not meet the minimum salary, the league takes the shortage and gives it to the players on the team. Example, if the team had 15 $1M contracts, they would be about $37M short of the minimum salary. So each player would get about an extra two and a half million from the league to make the minimum team salary.

@AlexKennedyNBA: Chicago contacted Nate Robinson and offered the minimum, per a source. He's searching for a more lucrative multi-year deal after big season.

Pacers should be all over that.

@HowardBeckNYT: Smith will get max permitted under early-Bird rights, approx $24.5 mil over 4 years. Exact figures will be determined after moratorium.

I think that's a lot of money for a guy that shot about 35% from three over the last two seasons, and had splits of 33/27/72 during this year's playoffs. Just another sign that the Knicks are after the sizzle and not the steak.

That said, they're also all-in right now, and I was actually expecting him to get a bigger offer from someone else. This isn't really a great signing but they wouldn't be able to get anyone better with the mini-MLE either.

The Knicks had one good year, which funny enough was a result of "Linsanity", Knicks wont be that good next year

The savvy vet has to be Landry. I think we offered the full MLE to him. It's hard to say why there is a delay in acceptance. But I have little doubt we are pushing hard for his services.
Where did that come from? I don't remember the team making Landry an offer.

EDIT: Sorry, I see where this has been further discussed after this post.
