    what's his personality, again?

I don't care that he takes a bad shot now and then. I already went through that with Rasheed and the positives far outweighed the negatives.

Josh Smith never takes games off on defense, which is what matters to me.
Mercurial probably describes his personality fairly well.

Serious question again Kstat: Do you think Josh Smith is a lock down wing defender? I was always under the impression that his defense was always a tad overrated because of his shot blocking totals.

Monroe's numbers went up in every category when they finally started drummond next to him.

Monroe's limited range didn't matter as much because he just backed in whatever smaller PF was guarding him and he and drummond played volleyball.

And is there any reason, other than pure hope, to think that JSmith is suddenly going to change his entire personality for the freaking Pistons?

Josh Smith has been an integral player on a team that has made the playoffs for six straight seasons, advancing past the first round in three of them. That has to count for something.

A chucker who thinks he is a teams #1/#2 option.

Smith isn't Sheed. Not even close.

Smith just feels a little forced to me. If I was going to pick a small forward for the PIstons, I would pick Igoudala

Josh Smith never takes games off on defense, which is what matters to me. We're not relying on him to make outside shots. We drafted KCP for that.

Yeah, I would too. I think Iguodala is a better wing defender and less of a locker room question mark than Smith.

Now, there would be a fit. An infusion - at the right price - of maybe Reddick & Iguodala would have the Pistons maybe going somewhere.

As a paint defender, I agree %100. Too small, not very good at defending the post.

As a perimeter defender? I think he's very good. He has issues defending off the ball now and then but most big SFs do, George included. You're certainly not going to size him up one on one.

Who couldn't rain in his shot selection. But he will suddenly do just that because of the upward trajectory of the Detroit Pistons.

No he doesn't. He never, ever got the most of his abilities, and I think he'd agree. But he brought all the important things. He was the coach on the floor during our best years. Maybe the smartest Piston player ever next to maybe Rodman and Dumars, in terms of bball IQ.

Speaking of which, Sheed is likely signing on as an assistant coach.

Is Calderon a free agent? If so, are the Pistons planning on bringing him back?

Pistons have too many non-PG needs and Calderon I'd think would hope for a sooner contender at this stage.

Nor would I expect him to.

Smith is what he is. I accept that. But I think his positives far, far outweigh his negatives on the right team.

    Absolutely, though I don't think he'd be a starter.

That move only makes sense if Smith signs, though. You'd need a lot of defense behind calderon.

He still shot 46.5% from the field last year. For comparison's sake, JO shot 43.4% in 03-04, the season in which he finished third in MVP voting. That JO season has been hyped up around here for ten years.

Smith is what he is. He's certainly not perfect, but he has proven for a long time that he can be a vital cog on a team that wins a lot of games in the regular season and even a playoff series. He's not going to put the Pistons in the Conference Finals, but he would sure help them improve over their recent poor seasons.

Yeah, exactly. Calderon is a sieve on D, but if you have those trees behind him suddenly it becomes less of an issue.

BTW, all indications are that Detroit wants Iggy as well, but he's a longer shot given that Denver is likely going to hand him a blank check.

Dumars made it public that he plans on using his cap space on athletic, defensive wing players. Obviously Smith is his first choice, but he'll go on down the list if he doesn't get him.

we don't even know for a fact that Tyler did. a little blurb on RealGM is what everyone is basing it on.
Bird did said they give Hansbrough a QO in the intro presser of S.Hill. The reporters even joked with asking which Hansbrough.

As long as Dumars is in control we likely dont have to worry about such appropriate moves...He can be counted on to screw it up....Hes been doing that for a long time now...a very long time

That's his personality. The guy isn't going to change the way he's played for the past 9 season, because the Pistons asked him nicely. The Hawks couldn't do it, while they were in the middle of the playoffs, let alone a lottery contender looking to add talent. I would think a massive FA contract would only reinforce the idea of how great a player Smith is, instead of telling him he needs to rein it in.

And I *****ed about his low percentage shooting then too. A major reason why I'm not a JO fan is because of his shooting percentages, and his attitude (like Smith's) in thinking he's much better offensively than he actually was/is.

Nobody is going to tell him to "reign it in." He isn't a point guard. He can't control who the first and second options are.

They talked to him about his role on the team already. That's what the first meeting was about. If he likes what he heard, he'll come back and they'll hammer out a deal.

I guess I didn't realize you had to be a point guard to cut back shot attempts.
