@HowardBeck: Bad news for OKC: Thunder announce that Westbrook had arthroscopic surgery on right knee. Will miss first 4-6 weeks of season.

Awesome scene. I hate the Yankees, but Rivera is a class act and that was an incredible exit.

    That was so awesome.

    Surgery for Russell Westbrook.

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook will miss the first four to six weeks of the regular season after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday.

This situation is starting to sound a bit worrisome. Will we see him before the new year?

    Nets are imploding already.

Jason Kidd told Kevin Garnett he planned to cut his minutes, KG did not like that

Doc Rivers tried to limit Kevin Garnett’s minutes a little in Boston last season, having him sit out some games, but Garnett still averaged almost 30 minutes a night when he did play. (Rivers’ hands were tied, when KG came off the court the Boston defense turned to mush.)

New Nets coach Jason Kidd want’s to keep Garnett’s minutes under control as well, keep the 37-year-old fresh for the playoffs. He’s got a little depth up front to give him some options, such as not playing KG on half of a back-to-back.

So Kidd went to tell Garnett the plan and… that didn’t go to well. Those are not my words, they’re Garnett’s, as he told the USA Today.

“It didn’t go too well,” Garnett said. “I understand what he’s saying. He just wants to make sure I’m durable. … I just don’t want to be told anything. I think I’ve earned the right to have an opinion on something that I’m doing. From a chemistry standpoint, I think it’s important for me to be out there with everybody.”

Garnett generally seems like a good teammate (stories about him punching Rick Rickert in practice notwithstanding) but almost every time he talks I lose a little respect for him.

So if Kidd does what he wants, KG is allowed to have an opinion, but if Kidd doesn't do what he wants, KG's not allowed to have an opinion?

    Air tight logic.

That would be great if the Mavs can get him to pair up with Dirk. That would be a 1-2 punch inside-outside offense. With Rick as a coach, I'm sure that defense wouldn't be too much of an issue.

I thought the scene w/ the Tigers winning the divison title w/ Jim Leyland interviewed was one of the most real moments I've seen in quite a while. If I had to pick 1 coach based on emotion, caring, being out there, taking the X's and O's out of it, I'd take Jim Leyland. He's a damn good baseball coach too, I find lots of similarities w/ Vogel and him obviously besides the age difference.

Jim Leyland's an awful manager. The Tigers are the only team in the league who can set up their starting rotation yet are choosing to start their 3rd best pitcher in Game 1 of the playoffs.

Man... I remember when I first heard Kidd was coaching the Nets... I was imagining him trying to boss KG around (ok, coach him), and figured something like this was bound to happen at some point. Didn't think it would be happening already. Damn.

Ah, I saw a schedule with Verlander pitching Game 1. I figured Scherzer would get the call, even though Anibal Sanchez has been the Tigers best pitcher this season.

Pistons unlikely to extend Monroe during the season or offer him the max. I am tremendously hopeful that the Mavs throw him a 4-year max contract.
Anyone who says josh smith is "much more effective at the 4" has no ****ing clue what they're talking about....

Likewise, the pistons are not going to let Monroe walk. That's a pipe dream. They will either extend him, match any offer for him, or trade him to a team that will.

They aren't extending him right now because David falk is Monroe's agent, and you should already know what Falk thinks of extending rookie deals prematurely.

No offense, but I don't get why anyone would refer to MJ as his least recognizable number. There's only one number he should be associated with.
