Why is it a lame post?

It may not be what Bird wants to do or that Hickson may not be the type of Frontcourt Player that fits next to West or Hibbert....but technically, I think that it may be possible from a Salary Cap POV......as Devin Harris went for $3 mil a year / 3 years and Hickson went for $5 mil a year / 3 years.

CJ went for $2 mil, Copeland went for $3 mil and the Pacers still have about $2.5 mil left in $$$ before hitting the 2013-2014 LT.....that's roughly $7.5 mil in salary. The $$$ figures are off by roughly $500k.

Just because you don't agree with a trade suggestion doesn't mean that it's "lame".
But it is lame. How do you expect to add the 3 million dollar salary of Harris and the 5 million dollar salary of Hickson? The Pacers are over the salary cap. Meaning exceptions must be used to add players. The MLE could be used to add one of those players, but not both. So how you gonna get the other one? A team may choose to stay under the Luxury tax limit by choice. But even if they dont, they still must use exceptions if they are over the cap. And there is no exception called "we arent at the LT threshhold yet, so we would like to spend more"

Somehow I missed that one. Too bad in a way. IND has to pick up someone to fill that spot and Hansbroughs spot.

The $7.5M that you mentioned there isn't true cap space. It's the MLE (a little over $5M) and space under the LT line. We can't just sign guys outright until we reach that figure. Once the MLE is gone, we'd have to do sign-and-trades.

Here's The Future's lame recent post history:

    LOL!

Just a terrible signing. This guy wont even be in our playoff rotation, you can book that. He plays NO defense what so ever. This guy is a certified scrub straight from the d-league and after a fluke season getting paid at age 30.

Wow, Millsap 2 years 19 million. What a deal for the Hawks.

In terms of talent/youth combination, I would rather take Millsap at this deal over West.

Blazers sign Dorell Wright 2 years/6million.

    Wright > Copeland IMO.

Plays defense and is a above average 3 point shooter.

The Pacers continue to fail on free agents these past 2 seasons.

Devin Harris, Dorell Wright >>>>> CJ Watson, Copeland

Two former starters replaced with career backups.

    Collison, Harris >>> Watson.
It's one thing if you actually make suggestions about guys for the team to sign, and it's another to play Monday morning quarterback in every signing as if he was calling for us to get these players ahead of time (in his defense, I see that he mentioned exactly one of them as a potential target in the last 6 months). Not to mention the fact that the rotation he posted would have been impossible to field without the use of complicated sign-and-trades that assume that either Atlanta or Portland is interested in Tyler Hansbrough.

Nah. We need a back up 4 first. How about Chris Kaman? We can move Ian to the 4 Chris at the 5. Cope at the 3, Lance at the 2, CJ at the 1. Kaman should be in our range? If not him Elton Brand? It's still early though but we need to either sign someone or move Green for Evans or something.
Have you lost touch with that little thing called R-E-A-L-I-T-Y ?

Seriously now, we have about the minimum (or just marginally more) left to sign another player and you come up with Kaman and Brand? I really doubt either one would sign with us for that sort of money.

Btw... it's been awfully quiet around Miami so far this postseason. They may not have a lot to sign players, but don't negate the pulling factor of playing for a lot less with the now two-time champions...

I swear I can't tell if you're trolling or if you just have no concept of the salaries that players earn. Kaman is probably 8 or 9 million too much for us to afford hahah.

Why is there not more talk about Bynum? Weird that there hasn't been more chatter. What's the deal?

Can't cut and paste, but possible trade Bucks and Hawks, both s&t Branding Jennings and Jeff Teague.

I have an idea that he just gets an idea about a player he likes, makes a post, and then doesn't read any of the replies that explain why the Pacers can't pay that player. He ignores those, and just makes another post, about another player, where the same limitations apply. Although, I guess he does read SOME of the replies, because he will sometimes say OK, what about this guy, who turns out to be yet another player whose demands would yet again have the same limitations. Maybe he needs to check out some of the sites that list player salaries and team cap situations.

Dude Grimp, you really need to read about the Salary Cap...and research about how much different types of players earn. Every post you make just doesnt make sense at all man. Not trying to be rude...just trying to help.

I don't think the Nuggets know what they're doing right now. Hickson isn't a player they needed. I don't understand why they traded a good young improving shooting guard in Affalo for Iggy if they had no intention on trying to keep him past last season. I don't know if they still have enough cap space to chase Ellis now.

I wondered about that too, but the only PF the Nuggets have is Faried. JJ won't take his job, he'll be b/u.

Player that Denver has that they don't play much is Mozgov. He's an interest to me. I'd love the Pacers to trade Green and a 2nd pick or 2 for him, but with Shaw the coach I don't see that happening. Wishful thinking tho.

Bynum for one year when you got cap to burn, why the hell not?

With cap, a smart GM can be a facilitator for other teams getting deals done, and get better than Bynum for their effort. Ask Philly how Bynum worked out for 1 year injured rental. They traded Vucevic, etc away for nothing to get that injured rental.

And it's not like Bynum would want a multi year contract either really, he needs a big "prove it" year so some team will make the mistake of giving him 4 year max.

The Cavs would not give up anything and would not need to use up all of their cap. Poor comparison.

Mozgov didn't play much do to their having Koufos last year. Letting Koufos go for almost nothing is another strange move. I suspect that the ownership disagreed with Karl on several of his moves including his not starting McGee, but anyone who can see what an idiot McGee is can understand. I'd expect McGee to start under Shaw and Mozgov to get a lot of minutes off the bench. They have enough big small forwards who get a lot of PT that I just don't see the need for Hickson. Hickson could play at the 4 or 5 but they seem set there to me. IMO they were far better off keeping the lineup they had at the end of 2012.

So Danny has stayed in Indy to get himself ready for the season. With him going into An FA season and Pacers doing so well in the playoffs. Danny has to have an itch for success more then ever. It could be possible that Danny could have one of his best seasons coming this year. Honestly, he should be very fit and ready and fresh after resting his entire body all year. Not getting my hopes up to much, but I am looking forward to a big performance by Danny.

WOW! I didn't know Denver let Koufos go. Was he a FA and I missed it, or was he traded? Where did Koufos go?
