Thread: Adjustments for Game 7

They need to get a good start to try to level out the crowd. They need to make careful passes and, something I noticed in Game 6, take the shot in the paint when you have it. Multiple times Paul and Tyler tried to get rid of the ball when they had a shot they could take. Also make a ********************************************** layup.

I'm most concerned with the Heat's trapping defense. We need to be ready for it. Turnovers are the big key. We can't let the Heat get a big run. Once they get going it's very hard to stop.

Cutting down on live ball turnovers is important. Dead ball, we still get to set up our halfcourt D and can prevent them from scoring like that. Live ball, they'll get an easy dunk.

Also, if there is not a lot of time left on the clock at the end of a half or quarter, go for getting the ball in safely instead of trying some miracle QB throw down court *coughWestcough*

Run, run, run! Of course, not all the time, but sometimes. I want us to get some easy baskets, we are athletic enough...

I don't like the idea of playing a set Miami defense with 14 seconds on the clock.

Also, I want Hill/PG to pressure Chalmers/LeBron when they take the ball up the court. I hate when I see Chalmers let the ball roll to half court and pick it up with 24 seconds to work with, it will make our defense worse.

Continue to maintain composure when the Heat resort to dirty tactics.

If the Pacers start getting a sizeable lead I wouldn't put it past the Heat, particularly
Birdman or maybe even Haslem to try to incite an altercation in an effort to disrupt
    a Pacers surge.

Whatever happens in the first half won't matter. It will likely be like a boxing match where we try to figure out what they are trying to do and they try to figure us out. No one really throws the haymaker, just a few jabs to see what might work. No matter what happens in the first half, this game will come down to the wire. We absolutely cannot relax.
I look at this in reverse. I expect the Heat to come out with guns blazing, offensively and defensively. They will attempt to break the Pacers early, and keep their foot on the Pacers' throats for the whole game.

In general, don't let Miami scare you. Don't let the moment scare you. Don't try to do anything "heroic" and stupid. Just go play ball and show the world what a real team is.
That would be the hoped for reaction to what I described above. Composure, and consistent effort.

I think one thing we did well in Game 6 that needs to continue is use our wings (Paul and Lance) as creators.
Yeah, I've been calling for his all year. It worked very well for Game 6. GHill's mediocre court vision is replaced by Lance and PG, and instead Hill gets the ball in a better position to score, and he's a first rate scorer and better perimeter shooter than Lance.

We need to control the paint and the glass. Limiting our turnovers would be great.
I like the first sentence, a positive. But the second is a negative, or a passive/reactive type of mentality. (Not picking on you, pizza guy, just thinking out loud on the way Vogel should express it.)

Vogel is kind of a master at positive thinking so he's probably on the job. Anyway, I would prefer phrases like, "be deliberate and professional as you seize the opportunity created by a double team or trap." Something like that.

    "No rebound, no rings"

Who said it? Pat Riley, of all people.

Of course we also need the 50-50 balls and to limit turnovers. Other that that we just need to be ourselves and they are in a world of hurt.

Our arena, their arena, Rucker park, it just doesn't matter. We're bigger, longer, younger, faster, and hungrier.

    Be aggressive on offense.

The Heat are going to do exactly that, and we will get called for fouls. We need to be prepared and we need to do the same to them, but with the firm expectations that we will not get a whistle. Play for the basket, not the free throws - that means no wasting energy trying to sell a foul, no weak flings toward the bucket to draw contact. Play good, hard, aggressive, take-it-to-the-rim basketball and let the whistles take care of themselves.

Hmm.... If the Heat make the adjustment that Dwade advises, then the Heat better pack up for golfing already, they have ridden on LBJ's shoulders this whole series, and he has the audacity to call him out? Wade is such a crybaby when he doesn't score 20+ a game, but trust me, it is ONLY because his poor knee hurts, just like last year.

Rebound, Make layups, don't turn the ball over. These are not adjustments people. C'mon! Show you have some basketball knowledge here.

Stop double teaming Lebron out of the pick and roll. So many open 3s have come from that in this series.

-Defense first. Hold the Heat to under 44% shooting.

-Lance needs to be the good Lance tonight.

-I have a feeling we'll need all 5 starters scoring in double digits, but it's mandatory that 4 out of 5 do.

-Keep rebounding more than the Heat

-Get to the line as much as the Heat

-For goodness sake, limit TOs to 11 or fewer!

Gonna need a pretty flawless game in order to win.
Lance + Starting SG = Awesome

    Now really free Lance!

Offensively....I wouldn't make any adjustments from game 6. Get the ball moving and use sharp entry passes to get Hibbert and West as many catches down low around the basket. When they catch it that low there is nothing the Heat can do about it. We somewhat went away from this in game 5 and you saw the result. The more touches Hibbert gets tonight the better chance we move on to the Finals.
