Default 2013 Eastern Conference Finals: (1) Miami vs. (3) Indiana

To be clear: this is NOT a game thread. This is intended as a random thoughts/media thread for anything related to this series, since we've got some time before game 1....and on a selfish note, I felt kind of odd if I didn't make an ECF thread this year.

I did promise a looooong time ago, that if you ever got to the finals I'd root for you. I don't think you'll win this series, but I won't be heartbroken if you prove me wrong, either.

    Congratulations, everyone. You earned it.

I feel like this team has grown up a lot from last season, and there's not a player in that starting 5 who isn't better. Hopefully, they embrace the moment and don't back down an inch. Their balanced starting 5, size, toughness, and defense will make this a tough series for Miami regardless. Don't poke the bear this time though, just play our game.

I'm thinking it'll be about halftime of Game 1 when Pacers fans start getting real pissed at Shaq for saying "Birdman, Birdman"

I am hopeful that we can win. We'll see. This has been a great season and I don't want it to end soon. We will be playing into June. Believe that.

No matter what happens, this season was a success for us.

That said, I think the take this in 5. They're just too damn talented.

    Prove me wrong, Pacers!

    That's what I think too.

Miami has the best player in the world and 8 of their 9 rotation players are threats from 15 feet and further, which could limit Hibbert's effectiveness if Bosh and Haslem are hitting. Plus Mike Miller would easily be the best Pacer bench player, and he doesn't even play for Miami.

But, the Pacers do match up well with them, and they're not intimidated or afraid.

Game 1, game 1 is huge. It is always sort of a wildcard game, and usually the easiest game for the road team to win.

The Heat have been, well, on fire recently, the end of the regular season into the playoffs. This is going to be a hell of a challenge, but I am confident that we're up for it.

Game 1 will be a big one, like UB said. I think we're a lot better than either Milwaukee or a broken down Chicago. Miami will have to adjust to playing a better tier team, and we're most likely to take advantage of that sooner rather than later.

Yep this was the year. We needed Granger for this series, we need OFFENSE desperately.

Anyways, I think the way to win is steal game 1 and dominate on our home court just like how it was in the Knicks series.

I hope we take them to 6 or 7 games and make this a legit series.

Btw, Wade is playing awful in the playoffs due to his knee.

Dwyane Wade said Friday that extra rest won't help his bone bruises heal.

Maybe its the beer, maybe i'm too optimistic, but i think we can do it. We are the underdogs, and it ain't gonna be easy. But dammit, this team plays good basketball. We gotta clean up some things, ie turnovers and make sure to hit our FTs. But if we rebound and defend, we will be in every game. The Bulls were basically on crutches and stole a game in Miami and were damn close in a couple other games. We're better than the Bulls.

Beating Indiana in Indiana is a very difficult thing. We need to hold home court. We won't win 2 in Miami. But we can steal one there. Roy needs to be like Roy of tonight. Amazing defense and reliable offense. Not saying he needs 20+ every night, but we need to be able to count on him to slow the game down to our pace and hit a nice hook shot. West needs to be what he was in the second half tonight. No more missing bunnies at the rim. This is the ECF. He needs to outplay bosh. PG needs to attack attack attack. And hit his FTs. Both PG and West were making some really stupid turnovers vs the Knicks. Can't do that against Miami. Lance needs to attack attack attack and remain in control. We don't need 25 every night. But we need the aggression. And Hill needs to limit turnovers and pick smart shots. I'm ok with him taking a higher volume of threes, usually they are good looks. But sometimes he does get trigger happy. In game 4 it was good, tonight not so much.

When you play defense and rebound the way the Indiana Pacers do, you will always have a chance in every game. Its such a team effort in both categories. Our wings will lead us in rebounding and its not because our bigs weren't rebounding well. We need to play better. But we can play better. I think our best chance is to steal one of the first two games and then holding home court, just like the NY series. I will say Pacers in 6.

Like I said, maybe its the beer, maybe im just too optimistic. But i'm saying Pacers in 6.

    And I need another beer.

I wonder if LeBron considers the Pacers a rival now?

It took superhuman performances from both Wade and LeBron to beat the Pacers last year. Can they both replicate those performances? Will they have to with a healthy Bosh?

Pacers need to finish them in 6, if the series goes to 7 Miami wins.

The key to winning this series (as are all games) is possessions. You have the most possessions, you likely win the game.

How do we do that? How we win every other game, rebounding and limiting turnovers. We also need to limit fouls..because our bench can't play much.

This series is winnable. Of course we are the underdogs. But our starting five is better than theirs. The key is to remember that Lebron James can't beat us by himself. He couldn't last year (remember, the turning point was when Wade went off..Lebron was good even through the losses.) So DON'T let him get the rest of the team involved.

Lance needs to be agressive and put pressure on Wade's knee too, Pacers need to attack Wade at all times.

What really is going to hurt us is when Miami goes small and forces Hibbert to guard Bosh. It'll take Roy out of the paint. We have to be able to punish Miami for going small with West and Hibbert. Last year, we struggled making low post entry passes.

Pacers have to play Miami like they played the Knicks; namely, keep them off the three point line. If we are going to get beat by them, make LeBron, Bosh and Wade be superhuman. Don't let Ray Allen, Shane Battier, Rashard Lewis, Mike Miller, etc. beat us from the three point line.

You are right Sookie but this team has been a turnover machine all year. Is something finally going to click with the lazy passes and bad decision making? I sure hope so because we don't beat the Heat if we keep turning the ball over like this.

I agree. The Heat punish the **** out of teams that turn the ball over. We have to be sharper than we've been all year against the best team in the NBA. And I think we will rise to the challenge.
