Sources: Jets have agreement in principle to trade Darrelle Revis to Buccaneers

The New York Jets have agreed in principle on a trade to send star cornerback Darrelle Revis to Tampa Bay for undisclosed draft picks and the Buccaneers have agreed to a long-term contract that will make Revis one of the highest paid non-quarterbacks in the NFL, according to multiple sources.
Revis boarded a private jet Sunday morning to fly to Tampa Bay for an official physical, although the Buccaneers medical staff is already aware of the results of an MRI exam Revis took April 15 when he returned to the Jetsí offseason program. Assuming the physical goes well, a final agreement could be reached by Sunday night or Monday morning.
ďThereís a .001 chance this deal doesnít happen, so I donít want to say itís done,Ē one source said. ďThereís always a chance something could go wrong, but itís unlikely.Ē
The Jets gave Revis permission to visit the Buccaneers on Sunday morning after reaching an agreement with Tampa Bay on the trade portion of the transaction.
As for the contract, the Bucs are well aware that Revis is seeking a deal worth in the range of $15 million to $16 million per year. Revisí agents, Neil Schwartz and Jonathan Feinsod, have told the Jets on multiple occasions that their client is seeking a deal in line with what players such as defensive end Mario Williams (six years, $96 million) and wide receivers Calvin Johnson (eight years, $150.5 million) and Larry Fitzgerald (eight years, $113 million) have received.
The Jets were in a bind for two reasons. First, owner Woody Johnson is not interested in paying Revis what he wants. Second, Revis canít be franchised after the 2013 season, when he can opt out of the final two years of his contract.
Tampa Bay, which won a Super Bowl two years after making a similarly splashy trade to get Keyshawn Johnson from the Jets in 2000, have both the salary-cap space (the team is $28 million under the cap) and the experience with Schwartz and Feinsod. The Bucs signed wide receiver Vincent Jackson to a five-year, $55.5 million deal last season. Jackson is represented by Schwartz and Feinsod.
The teams have been working on the trade since the NFL scouting combine in February.

Smart move by the Jets if it goes through. They rid themselves of that clown and his sideshow antics.

They also rid themselves of one of, if not the, top corners in the league.

Man, I can't wait for next season.

True, but I don't think they are going anywhere with or without him. Let his antics be someone else's problem, save the money, and rebuild with the draft picks. Oh, and get a new quarterback.

No guaranteed money on his contract with the Bucs. Of course if he proves he can remain healthy, look for him moving to secure his money (probably with his favourite way so far when he was with the Jets ).

I really don't think that is true. I don't think he's a top tier QB by any means, but we had a pretty good offense last year. It was the defense that blew. Josh has had a good year, bad year, and last year was half and half. At this point I wouldn't say he is the future, but I believe he capable of getting this team into the playoffs and winning a couple games.

I am by no means predicting a Super Bowl, and I think it is entirely possible Schiano gets 'his guy' next year.

I don't think they will make the playoffs. They are in a pretty tough division. Atlanta isn't going anywhere and I expect New Orleans to comeback with a vengeance now that Coach Payton is back. I don't see them finishing any better than third in their division. Heck, the Panthers won 5 of their final 6 games and could finish better than the Bucs.

I think the NFC is way too deep for the Bucs to get a playoff spot. You have to think that whoever doesn't win the division between Seattle and SF will get a wildcard. Also, whoever doesn't win the division between Atlanta or New Orleans will be in the mix for one. The NFC North and East also have a couple teams who should contend for a wildcard spot. I don't see the Giants throwing away a playoff spot again.

I hope that the Jets use the pick on "the next Vernon Gholston"
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)
