No Rutgers and Maryland arent juggernauts. But they are solid and out if the options out there for big ten expansion (there aren't a whole lot of options BTW). It pushes our conference schedule to 9 games which means less Youngstown states on the schedule.
Going to disagree with the "solid" part. Maybe Maryland basketball is solid, but that's it for the revenue sports. We didn't need to expand. And we aren't going to a 9 game conference schedule, I believe I read somewhere. Even if we are, we could have done that without adding two extra teams.

Add Rutgers to the Big Ten. They immediately embarrass you with an athletics program in shambles. Hard for me to deem that as "solid"

Rutgers football's won 8+ games in 6 of the last 7 years, 4 of those years were 9+. Sure, "but they played in the Big East," but it's not like Big Ten football's exactly some juggernaut these days. They recruit very well, their classes would routinely be in the top half of the Big Ten. They're solid.

Yeah, Maryland basketball is really solid....if this were a decade ago. No Sweet 16 since 2003. They are a has-been program.

These are weak additions that do nothing but dilute a solid conference. We're getting the scraps that no one else wanted.

Going to disagree. If I'm not mistaken, the last decade of Rutgers football has been the apex for that program's history. Granted, it's better than say...Indiana's, but you aren't adding a "solid" football program. You are adding a "mediocre" football program. As for all sports, you are adding a school with deep fiscal issues within it's athletic department, not to mention recent scandal. The Big Ten money is bailing them out in a big, big way (no pun intended). Nothing we can do about it now, but I wasn't happy about the move then and I'm not now. Even with the huge B1G alumni bases in the NYC market.

I like that it's now East/West. I'm an Illini fan and I could never remember whether we were 'Leaders' or 'Legends.' With Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, and Ohio State all in the East, it's clear that the West division is going to be the afterthought when it comes to football.

Yeah, I would like it too if my team were in the West Division
