    Seeing as the explosions went off in between where guests from Newtown were sitting. Gun extremist is my guess. (Particularly considering CT is in the process of making their gun laws stricter and Boston/CT/NY tend to copycat each other when it comes to laws. This could completely be a local/regional strike.)

    I don't think the Boston Marathon is a big enough deal for international terrorists groups to even recognize.
    25,000 runners from over 90 countries? Oh it's a plenty big enough deal, in one of our flagship cities no less.

    That being said, this could just have easily been a domestic whacko(s)

    There are extremeists from both sides of the aisle (left and right) no need to jump to conclusions.

    A lot of facts left to come out still

    8-year-old Martin Richard, seen in this Facebook photo, was killed in the explosions at the Boston Marathon.

    Interesting no one has claimed this dirty deed. The more it drags out the more it seems this is going to be a homegrown POS that did this.

    A friend of mine in Boston reposted this on facebook late last night... awesome story towards the end...

    written by Jonathan Grondin

    Before I try to shut down my social media inlets for the night,... I want to share the one story today that will help me sleep a little.

    My day started at Fenway celebrating a great Red Sox win in the bottom of the ninth while a group of friends and I paraded toward the finishline. Approaching the crowds at the fire station on Boylston, we decided to head right down Huntington to speed up our commute to Copley Square. As we passed Shaw's, right before we headed left down Exeter, the first blast froze hundreds of people. Ten seconds later the second explosion sent a sea of people crying and screaming as they ran toward us. Priorities shifted immediately. Many quickly got on their phone and some ran to the smoke to help. The next hour became a blur of calls, texts, tweets, and Facebook while we all got escorted out of the Back Bay. We decided to go our separate ways to find loved ones and head to safety. I was buried in my phone trying to put people at ease as well as inventory everyone I knew that was downtown. Looking up is saw the faces of racers 25 miles in and 1.2 away from finishing their six month journey to complete the Boston Marathon with no knowledge of what had just gone down. My 30 minute walk ended at my car on Commonwealth Avenue right outside of BU. I was waiting for a friend to get through Kenmore Square so I could pick him up and get us out of the city. While blankly staring through my windshield, I listening to the radio replay the sound that had already been burned into my brain. I was shaken out of my haze with the sight of a young army soldier, full fatigues, painfully limping after being pushed out of the race due to the events that took place just a few miles away. He was with his wife/girlfriend and woman who looked like his mom. From behind him a gentleman wearing his Boston Marathon finisher medal was pushing his son in a stroller and holding hands with his wife. His face was noticeably disturbed. It was oblivious that he had knowledge of the bombing. The second he saw the soldier he stopped dead in his tracks, clenched his medal and said, "thank you for your service, please take my medal". The soldier was caught off guard, put his hand on the much shorter gentleman’s shoulder and thanked him for his offer but he couldn't take gift. He immediately pulled it over his head, got on his toes and forced it around the neck of the soldier, grabbed his wife with one arm and hurried down the street. Both families broke down in emotion as they parted ways both equally changed forever. I have never witnessed anything so moving. Experiencing that while trying to process the emotions from the disaster one-hour before was unbelievable. It does not change the senseless loss from what is now being called "The Tragedy at the Boston Marathon".... but it helps to restore some faith in humanity, and challenges me to be a better.

    Had we not decided to detour down Huntington Avenue……

    To the anonymous soldier and athlete that changed me forever....thank you.

    What? It's an international event and one of the biggest most famous races in the world. Boston Marathon is as American as say the Kentucky Derby or the Indy 500.

    Yep, not to mention the fact that it will make people a bit nervous every time they go to one of these big events. It's instilling fear into people, which is exactly what a terrorist wants.

    It's mostly true. He wasn't runing, and there are conflicting stories on who the family was there to watch, but it's true an 8y/o was killed in the blast. His sister lost a leg, and his mother had surgery for a brain injury. NBC reported there was a third child in the family that was unharmed. I've not seen/read anything about the father.

    The Boston Globe mentions it here.

    Although if we've learned ANYTHING over these past few years it's to take every early report with a grain of salt.

    BTW... Reading today's news it doesn't seem the Saudi National has yet to be cleared even tho some early reports tended to indicate he was more caught up in this by people jumping to conclusions than actually being tied to any wrong-doing or truly suspicious behavior. Again, I'd say take what you read with a grain of salt, reports will probably vary for a while.

    Sure, it's very American. But I just don't see an international group going after the Indy 500 or Kentucky Derby. (Maybe the Superbowl...maybe...) We're talking about recreational stuff here.

    But meanwhile, domestically..it is a big deal. And it happens to be a race dedicated to Sandy Hook victims (gun extremists) around tax day (tea party extremists) and on patriots (just some American A-hole)...or..seeing as we've had people killing in public places for no damn reason...it just could be a psycho.

    But the last time we were attacked by international terrorists thousands of people were killed. This time, as of last night, the death toll was at 2.

    I mean..I could be completely wrong. But it just seems like if Islamic terrorists were looking to make a statement..it would have been bigger than this. (And I don't say that as belittling what happened here. I'm just saying 9/11...they went after symbolic buildings...the twin towers..our economy, the pentagon..our military..and they tried our white house..so their next strike is a race?)

    edit: Sure, it was likely a terrorist act. I just think it is more likely a domestic terrorist act.

    They attempted there were more devices. Terrorist attacks are sometimes less about the death toll and more about the significance of the target.

    Today's reports are all over the map as to whether there were unexploded devices or not.

    Homegrown or intl terrorism really can't be determined by the target or the size of the carnage. In fact, we've become much better at thwarting large scale targets IMO. But I'm not sure we'll ever stop small scale targeting. So, in fact, I've been surprised we haven't seen more of that type of thing.

    Yep it happens more often than folks realize.

    (U) Ongoing Concerns with Terrorism in the Homeland

    (U//FOUO) The activities in Boston highlight the use of improvised explosive devices
    (IEDs) to target large gatherings, including at special events, in order to inflict mass
    casualties. Examples of previously attempted or plotted IED attacks include:

    — (U//FOUO) The undetonated IED discovered along the planned 2011 “Martin
    Luther King Jr. Unity March” parade route in Spokane, Washington;

    — (U//FOUO) The November 2010 plot to detonate a vehicle-borne IED (VBIED) at
    an annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Portland, Oregon;

    — (U//FOUO) The October 2010 plot to conduct multiple mass casualty bombings
    at MetrorailUSPER stations in Washington, DC;

    — (U//FOUO) The May 2010 attempted detonation of a vehicle-borne IED in Times

    possible pic of the bag containing the 2nd bomb, before and after detonation:

    That would be huge to ID it and then find pics of someone leaving the bag there or carrying it around.

    Do you mean theoretically or currently? Not that it'd be an outrageous prediction, but I'd expect the highest turnout ever next year for the marathon.

    A person from 4chan has been scouring through pictures/video trying to identify possible bag carriers. They have some pretty interesting stuff that makes ya think.

    it's a matter of time though, if it's true that they have good video of a man leaving one of the bags from the department store across the street from where bomb #2 went off.
