I was looking at the draft-express mockdraft and they had us taking a 6'7'' point guard (Lew Westermann), although he is also a part of the international game, seems interesting, since there aren't that many tall point guards. Reading his profile made it seem though he isn't very athletic, so not sure if he would translate into the NBA.

    http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/...stermann-6149/
Westermann is a very interesting PG but I don't think that he would be a good fit for the Pacers. He is very tall for his position (6'7 as you mentioned) but he has a short wingspan (6'4). He is an amazing passer with great court vision and good basketball IQ but he is a streaky scorer.

He is too much of a pure pass-first PG to be a good fit in our team.

A guy named Andrew Wiggin is going to be in next year's draft? That's awesome. At least he'll have a nickname when he hits the league.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

Yeah, my thanks were based on agreeing that it doesn't simulate the NBA and isn't good for teaching the "game". It's good for a guy that needs reps and individual game improvements or confidence. This is why it was such a good fit for OJ.

But rotations, floor spacing, etc, you aren't learning the "game" in that way. That's what keeps the D-league from being the MLB farm system where development targets and levels are clearly defined.
Is the league ready to go the route of MLB and let teams own the rights to prospects and expand the draft to tie them up? Of course the age limit rule would have to go by the way side and the college game would hate the idea. I believe it would be more like what they have in Europe, would it not? Isn't that how guys like Tony Parker can come into the league at 19 after already being a pro?

The bench warmer big guy from the Spurs who never plays went to the D-League and averaged 20 and 10 in three games. The Spurs use their team like this a great deal, but again it is their team.

I was thinking about this today, and I could only think of one way it could work. First of all, each team would have to have it's own D-League team.

Here's an example of how I think it could work. Let's say the Pacers D-League team is in Fort Wayne. And let's say the Pistons want to sign one of the Fort Wayne players to a 10 day contract. The Pacers would have the right of first refusal on that player, where they could either decide to sign that player to a 10 day contract, or let the Pistons sign that player.

That's the only way I could see it working to be fair to the players. Remember, the players make significantly less than what they could make in Europe. Most choose to play in the D-League in spite of this because they can be available to be called up by all NBA teams. If they want players to have exclusive rights to the team, they have to pay them more, like $100,000 a season.

More like a guy named Andrew Wiggins is going to BE next years draft. Still holding out hope he graces Chapel Hill with his presence instead of Kensucky.

Basically they make him out to be the next LBJ. Watch his new highlight tape on youtube. Flat Out Amazing.

He's the most anticipated draft pick since LeBron. I don't know how any NBA fan cannot know his name by now.

Really? He's highly anticipated, but the media hype is still nowhere near Lebron IMO. It's not that surprising to me that someone wouldn't know who he is.

Of course everyone will know who he is by the end of next season.

He would have been the #1 pick as a highschool junior last season. While he may not be LeBron, he's the closest thing to him in the last decade.

We still have Lebron in the league, so the media can't be super-hyped about the Third Coming of their NBA Messiah. Lebron was hyped because Mike Jordan was on his way out of the league. If Lebron was just a washed up multi-time champion, then there would be more Wiggins pre-draft hype than anyone would be able to handle.

LeBron was a prodigy. Plain as day. It had absolutely, positively nothing to do with Michael Jordan. Absurd comment.

My guess for the reason he's kinda flown under the radar (no better choice of words) is bc of the whole reclassifying thing. He was the #1 in the 2014 before deciding to go a year early and taking the #1spot from Jabari Parker. That and the fact the "big thing" in recruiting this year was UK landing the best recruiting class ever. Those reasons and bc he is still undecided why I think the hype hasn't gotten huge yet. It will though, trust me on that.

If you haven't seen him do yourself a favor and watch the video below ↓↓

I just think the NBA doesn't hype high school guys as much anymore so if you don't really follow college you wouldn't know about him yet. And while he is great, he isn't Lebron. Lebron was comparied to a Magic/Bird/Dr. J hybrid man child.

the NBA never hyped HS players to begin with. The hype just follows this kid around, same as it did LeBron.

And yes, he is a man-child. The kid exudes greatness. It's just more the Michael Jordan air dominance mold than LeBron's Magic 2.0 mold.

I'm not saying he will be as great as lebron, but the overall talent level is off the charts like lebron, and basically nobody else from 2003-2013.

Jabari Parker is a phenom himself. He's a special talent in his own right, and Wiggins made him look ordinary.

Wiggins has never even been on a SI cover. Jabari Parker was though. Lebron was on the SI cover as a high school junior.

EDIT: Wiggins is great, but just last year before Wiggins re-classified Parker was supposed to be the best guy since Lebron and had his SI cover to go along with it.

Lebron's media hype was something else.

Next year's class is special IMO because your arguable top 3 picks, Wiggins, Parker, Vonleh have some very lofty comparisons but again most of this is limited to if you follow college ball, I'm not surprised an NBA focused person would not know about Wiggins, that's my main point.

Andrew Wiggins got the same hype as LeBron did as the best amateur player in the world as a HS junior.

He gets compared to Lebron bc Lebron was the last "big" thing we've had like that. On the Parker SI cover he was being called the next Lebron too

Lebron's high school games on ESPN were must see basketball TV. Sportscenter talked them up leading up to them, I remember my english teacher talking about Lebron's high school game on ESPN for about 30 minutes the next day in class. Wiggins doesn't have that. Part of that is because we all already went through it with Lebron.
