    Default Pacers / Clippers Post-Game Thread - 4/1

I don't know if Trophy is up now...so close this thread if he creates another Post-Game Thread.

This Team is an "ebb and flow" of efficient scoring offense and stiffling defense with the Starting 5....and then a clinic in how not to run your offense and defense when Vogel starts subbing in the 2nd unit. You can show video of "how to run your offense/defense" when the Starting 5 are on the floor....then show a video of "how not to run your offense and defense" when you start subbing in Players.

You could track when the Pacers and Clippers went on huge runs based off of when the entire Starting 5 is not on the floor. Once the subs start coming in....the Team starts to do terrible on both the offense and defensive end.

Also.....why doesn't Vogel run plays instead of letting PG/Lance/GH "dribble dribble pass pass" until there is less than a few seconds left on the Shot clock?

Seriously.....we started to lose the lead in the 4th QTR when they started doing that. I really don't know why Vogel doesn't run more plays to avoid this.

A Win is a Win.....and we need every one we can get.....but I hate ugly wins. My Blood pressure can't take games like this.

After constantly hearing about other teams' streaks, it's nice to for the Pacers to have one of their own. Away record is now 500.

Most teams don't use zone defenses that often, but Vogel might want to think about creating 5-10 plays to run against zone defenses. As a side note, Vinny was a fool for moving away from it when it was so effective against us.

I'd be happy if Vogel simply ran some more plays more often...especially when we go stagnant on the offensive end with the whole "dribble dribble pass pass and wait til there is less than a few seconds left on the shot clock and take an ill advised well guarded shot" routine.

I'm not convinced that what you described isn't a set play. I used to think it was just them not sure of what to do but not anymore. I think it's a way of milking the clock/controlling the pace of the game type of play designed for a 3-point shot.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

One thing that also needs to be mentioned. Most of the time when trying to get the ball into the low post it takes a little time. The post man needs position, needs to have his man pinned - that process can force the perimeter player to hold the ball as he waits for just the right moment to pass the ball into Roy or David.

If it's a play, then it's a poorly executed play.

Man, that last play had me thinking we might see an astronaut out on the floor.

Good win. Keep seeing a lot of stats that go back to that 2004 season, the last time we were contenders. I likee-likee.
PG24: "Don't tell me the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon!"

My oh my. JCraw was lights out. Paul just could not keep up...but Paul played his arse off and couldn't get off the floor. I'm sure fatigue got to him at some point.

It was definitely rough watching that finish but all that matters is the dubba U

Paul George is around 6'10", its hard for him to go over double screens.

Crawford is a beast, thankfully we won!

Vinny is the Pacers MVP on this game, he took Bledsoe and Odom out so he could play CP3 and Blake, he also decided to take the ball away from Crawford who was killing us, bravo Vinny bravo.

Timeout management was wonderful as well. Every good coach knows that you save the last timeout for when you have the possibility to tie the game or take the lead, not when you are down 4.

Pretty much. I'm loving the win, but if I was Vinny...I would have rode the bench to the end. Their bench had scored 50+ of their points, and the reason why they were able to get back into the game.

To be fair to Vinny, Chris Paul is as much the coach of that team as he is, especially late in games. And I didn't think he would sit himself or not give himself ball-handling duties no matter what happened.

We were really running on fumes for this win, even moreso than the Suns win. Like others, I was surprised to pull it out. There were shots of the benches towards the end of the fourth: the Pacers looked dumbfounded and dead tired, while CP3 was barking orders at everyone. A real horror show.

Damn those calls were spotty. Tons of hand check fouls on Paul, Hill, and the couple that fouled out Roy. Then, the no call on Barnes (which was a foul in any other quarter) followed by him completely cussing out the ref for longer than any player I've seen this season.

Yep. Dudes behind me throughout the run kept screaming at Vinny to bring them back in, and while they didn't particularly play poorly when they checked back in the energy level wasn't the same and they went away from the zone.

Funny stuff, Lance and Tyler were both able to sneak into a Clippers huddle and steal the plays toward the end of the game.

Zone defense and Indiana didn't know how to attack it.

Well, one way is to hit outside shots. We hit two back-to-back 3s, which is why VDN turned away from zone in the 4th.

The point stands though: we look disrupted, big time, with zone.

    Things that made me happy:
    • Finished a game with our defensive anchor fouled out
    • Calm and collected during free throws tonight... a bit of clutchness?
    • David West starting to round into form
    • Roy Hibbert got his sack back
    • Amazingly well rounded game for Paul George... threatening a trip-dub
    • No lobs

    Things that made me sad:
    • Lance lost control at the end of the game, a lot of concentration mistakes, not Born Ready for "winning time" yet
    • Hansbrough was absolutely erased in a game where we needed him
    • We were totally flustered with zone and couldn't do much out of time outs in response
    • Looks like Green isn't going to get past OJ in the rotation, we need to do something about the wing spot in the offseason

So everyone who watched the game against the clips when we played them in Indy without Roy that was asking. "Is Roy Hibbert really THIS much of a difference?"...I think we have our answer tonight
