He is a GREAT backup and a solid starter. He plays hard every night and is always working to get better as well. Letting him go would be a big mistake in my opinion. I want him to be a Pacer for life. Agree?

Anyone who says for whatever it takes is nuts and needs their head examined.

I am all for signing Tyler for 2 yrs/6 mil or something like that. But there are far too many weaknesses for me to go much higher than that. My guess is that he walks.

He has shown lately that he is a player worth more than 3 million a year. I think you are the one that needs your head examined or atleast more basketball knowledge.

PS: What are these weaknesses you speak of? He's definitely not a horrible defender (though not the best) and his offense is pretty good for an undersized PF. He gets to the line a lot and he is one of those players that gets under other players skins.

    LOL good comeback!

He has this vertigo issue which has limited his games played, his field goal % is very subpar for his position as well as his rebounding. He does get to the line and make free throws, but that is all.

Just do me this favor, show me a backup PF with similar numbers making significantly more than 3 million.

alot of teams will go after him and will give him a poison pill kinda deal that may put the pacers out of it, cant we sign him to a one year tender offer and he be a unrestricted FA next year?

How about you do me a favor and find a player that averages 15 and 10 per 36 minutes making less than the MLE.

Pendergraphs play has made tyler a little less of a need to resign.
"We've got to be very clear about this. We don't want our players hanging around with murderers," said Larry Bird, Pacers president.

Per is a really flawed stat to judge re-signing a player.

We don't have the money to spend a ton on Tyler any way, so the point is basically moot. Doesn't work with the cap. Wish it did because I like Tyler.

Pendergraph is good but I prefer Tyler's effort and post play rather than a intense though limited post player.

I'm not saying a ton i'm proposing we give him something around the MLE, or 5-6 mil.

Here are some backup PF's and their 2012-13 salaries for comparison:

    Brandon Bass- 6 million
    Reggie Evans- 1.6 million
    Zaza Pachulia- 5.2 million
    Carl Landry- 4 million
    Anthony Randolph-1.6 million
    Darrell Arthur- 3 million
    Tayshaun Prince- 6.7 million

Look, Tyler is NO WHERE NEAR Tayshaun Prince/Brandon Bass, so he should get nowhere near 6 million per season. So how much per season you willing to shell out?

First of all, Tayshaun is a small forward and if you were as smart about basketball as you think you are you would know that. Second of all, i'd take Tyler over Bass any day. Third of all, Landry is the only one out of the rest that is even comparable to Tyler.

Ok, lets look at this objectively:

    Bass- 7.9 PPG/5.2 RPG/.462 fg%/.857 ft%
    Hansbrough- 6.9 PPG/4.5 RPG/.435 fg%/.724 ft%

And you insult my basketball knowledge and want to make a statement like that. Ridiculous. Do you care to bring any facts to the table, or just more unsubstantiated opinions?

I'm just hoping he plays his way into a first round pick on the trade market. His lack of positional versatility severely limits his attractiveness as a highly paid back-up. If we're choosing between Tyler and West, I'm very willing to pay twice as much for West.

There only 2 scenarios where I see Tyler as a Pacer next year: 1. He plays for the 1 year QO and becomes a UFA the next year. 2. We lose West and can't find a better option.

Yea and Bass only averages 10 and 7 per 36. Tyler is better and it's not close.

Not true, could Tyler be better? Maybe, but it is certainly is close, and btw when comparing salaries, Landry makes 4 mil and he is on a different level than Tyler

FWIW Landry and Pachulia are better than Tyler, though ZaZa is a center. I thought Bass was better until this year, but I'm reconsidering.

No offense bear bugs, but you seem to be overreacting to Tyler's recent play, at best he is a decent back-up, at best

If Tyler was this "great" our bench would not be as bad as what it is. OJ has been the only quality bench player (and with him it has been in limited minutes) for the majority of the season.

He has always played well in extended minutes and I value him mostly as a energy guy that actually has a lot of talent and he gets to the line.

Okay now you're just embarrassing yourself our bench is very deep. Ian and Tyler especially.

And that is what he is, an energy guy, he has a bad range jumper, he is okay in the post, but he is a ball hog when he s down there, certainly not someone you do whatever it takes to keep
