Today's layoffs at the Washington Examiner extend beyond the Local section. Staffers are being told that the paper will cease daily publication in June to become a weekly political magazine and website, according to two sources who attended a meeting about the change.
Well that sucks, pretty much the only thing I read in that paper was the local news, which I thought was actually quite good. What they call "national news" is just running a billion op-eds by syndicated conservative columnists that are already online everywhere.
And the Washington Post is terrible IMHO, especially now that they're installing a pay wall. If I have to pay for a newspaper, I'm paying for the New York Times. Washington Post had a thing on Tiger Woods' new relationship as one of their front-page stories online this afternoon. They really expect me to pay for news that I don't care about and that even if I did, I could get on TMZ for free?
The Washington Times actually has pretty good local coverage. I would love for them to get Joetta Rose Barras' column that is in the Examiner now.
