    Default Washington Examiner Closing in June 2013;

    A bit off topic, but crazy to think we are damn close to becoming a one newspaper town with only the Washington Post.

    Today's layoffs at the Washington Examiner extend beyond the Local section. Staffers are being told that the paper will cease daily publication in June to become a weekly political magazine and website, according to two sources who attended a meeting about the change.

    Well that sucks, pretty much the only thing I read in that paper was the local news, which I thought was actually quite good. What they call "national news" is just running a billion op-eds by syndicated conservative columnists that are already online everywhere.

    And the Washington Post is terrible IMHO, especially now that they're installing a pay wall. If I have to pay for a newspaper, I'm paying for the New York Times. Washington Post had a thing on Tiger Woods' new relationship as one of their front-page stories online this afternoon. They really expect me to pay for news that I don't care about and that even if I did, I could get on TMZ for free?

    The Washington Times actually has pretty good local coverage. I would love for them to get Joetta Rose Barras' column that is in the Examiner now.

    I remember hearing talks of them cutting back a good amount back in late 2012 (October/November time frame) but I do not think the Times is going to go anywhere.....for now.

    If print truly is dying then places like the WAPO can make it on name alone. Not sure the Times could.
